New Nike Just Do It Spot with Lance.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

RW. Your post gave me as many chills as the commercial. Well done sir. F anyone who thinks badly of a guy trying to help future cancer survivors.

These.

I do believe a portion of the sale price goes to support the Livestrong Foundation.

Great news for your Dad and your family I am sure! That was great commercial. Loved seeing it on TV when it was aired.

Yep. I want to pick up a pair of those Lunar ones.

I agree with what has been said in this thread. I don't understand the hate for a man who has done so much for cancer research and given hope to millions of cancer patients and survivors. I have nothing but respect for the man. The fact that he is one hell of a cyclist just adds to it.

I downloaded that Mogwai tune. I'm going to use it on my iPod when I ride to pretend my cycling actually has meaning to somebody.

That should last about 3 rides.

I have Lunars. Mine are custom. Nike ID. Black with yellow soles. Yellow Nike swoosh.

On the sides of the heels you can get a customized message embroidered.

Mine each say "Go Lance"

I've watched to many friends and family die from the monster to not think of Lance as a hero for what he does. The Commercial gave me chills.

Go Lance.

All things considered the Mets are remarkably close, primarily because the Phils have no pitching and their whole division sucks.

BTW - I know I grip about him a lot...it's a kind of tough love I guess...

I actually love what the guy has done for the sport and for Cancer, and for America, etc...in fact, I wear a band and give money to LiveStrong on a frequent basis. I just think he's done the same thing all his rivals (who he consistently beat) did and I hate the extremely defiant posturing as a defense. I guess I prefer my guilt with a dose of keep your mouth shut.

Lance could have said he IS all those things. He still would be saying the same thing about it being for the people that rely on the foundation he created.

Now THAT would be an interesting commercial. "I cheated and lied and stole and lost my sponsors millions of dollars, but I did it all for you!"

Agreed, as fixed. There can exist good and bad in the same person, and the good doesn't necessarily excuse the bad. I greatly admire and respect his determination, inspiration, and charity. And I think he was a likely-doping, slightly-overrated, arrogant one-trick-pony of a bike racer who treated many talented current and former teammates like total crap. (Okay, that last sentence is admittedly a bit overstated, but you get the idea -- I can be a fan of Lance the anti-cancer crusader without being a fan of Lance the cyclist.)

You make a really valid point and I can admit this as I am and always was a Lance supporter. Arrogance? Sure, but all the greats (Jordan, Bird, Jim Brown, etc) had an instinct and demeanor that can be construed as arrogant. You have to believe your own bull$#$# to perform that well and intimidate opponents.

But to call Lance "Overrated and a one trick pony" is unfair in today's cycling events. They all "specialize" nowadays. Gone are the days where Merckx can win the Yellow, Green and Polka Dot Jersey in one Tour which is ridiculous but not unlike Chamberlin scoring 100 points in a game or averaging 50 points a game for an entire year. They were "men amongst boys" and could never replicate that today in their respective sports.

And to diminish the mental focus it takes to be consistent and not become complacent for almost 3/4 of a decade and defend a title is unparalleled in any other sport. He beat the best of his era, easily. Dope or no dope, it is an amazing accomplishment and I am not even factoring in the cancer.

Yes, could he be using his "crusade" against cancer as a way to deflect the critics? Is it a brilliant offensive move to keep the finger pointers at bay? Maybe, but the guy still never got caught like the others.

Almost 4 years out of cycling, 37 years of age, bad broken collar bone that impeded his training and he still places 12th at the Giro. C'mon now. Maybe, just maybe he did it clean in his prime. Just a thought.
