not sure if i'm interpreting this wrong but I promise you it wasn't a tale or a story, it was pretty real and scary..luckily the bars (easton ec90 slx) were under a several year warranty so I got them replaced, but they new ones have now cracked in my most recent wreck and i'm being told that I can't warranty these haha

No, no, I believe you. "Cautionary tale" is an expression and does not express an opinion as to the veracity of the story.

What I don't get, is that you had a scary incident with a carbon handlebar, and then rode the same model of carbon handlebars again?!

I ride aluminum Ritchey bars, have for 10 years now.

In Mountain Bike Action, they did a blind text of carbon and aluminum bars, on mountain bikes. .

One of the road bike mags (CyclingPlus?) currently has a review of stems and bars. Measures stiffness, weight, provides graphs, etc. Very cool. Described change in testing protocol that resulted in AL bars getting beefed up to meet new specs. AL bars are now a bit heavier than they were, but way cheaper than carbon in general.

haha I realize that mistake now, but at the time it was a free set of new bars and I just didn't want to shell out $100+ for new ones. Now that i'm getting a new bike though i will without a doubt be getting new and most likely aluminum handlebars based on what everyone has said so far

I'm terrible when it comes to decision making and very picky...now that I know what type of bar i'm getting its just the choice of what brand
