Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road bike for short rider.

I'm a female, 5'2" and my bike inseam is 30 inches. I'm interested in buying a road bike.

Im going to be visiting some bike shops around Houston later this week and I would just like a general idea of what sort of frame sizes someone my size would ride.

And yes I did use the search tool. =]

hard to say what size u need over the internets. best thing to do is visit the bike shops and have them measure you, then try out a few bikes in the size range that they suggest. HTH

Hi,

Soma makes a Road Race frame in a 48cm size that features 700c wheels. This bike features a 27.9 inch standover height.

Cannondale makes a female spicific range of bikes: https://gb.cannondale.com/bikes/09/ce/model-9RWA1T.html

top tube measurements are probably going the be the most important. and of course a spec of short reach bars and probably short reach shifters. and a 80mm or possibly 70mm stem.

Here's a primer on bike fit which will give you a good background and starting point for bike sizing and fit. The important point is to insist on fitting the bike to you -- not the other way round.

Trek, Cannondale, and several others all make WSD or Women's Specific Design.

For you, I would strongly urge you to spend as much time possible testing out various bikes to see what you find comfortable. And don't limit yourself to a lap around the parking lot. Take them out on rides of 10-15 miles if you can. Many bikes feel comfortable after ten minutes, very few feel comfortable after four hours. The longer you spend testing different bikes and different geometries the better you will understand what you want in your first road bike.

Since you're in Houston, I would strongly suggest checking out Bike Barn, Bicycle World and Fitness, Sugar Cycles, and West End Bicycles.

Good luck!
