Pcad Dura Ace 7900 Wrap Up

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So the SIS cabling actually does make a noticeable difference?

So much so that if I were my LBS I wouldn't build 7900 on bikes without it.

Having ridden both and able to get either one, I put Red on my bike. Better shifting, lighter, less expensive, better braking. I use the shifters, front and rear derailleur, and brakes. I have BB30 Hollogram in my bottom bracket/crank setup. I have Gore cables, which is about the best thing outside of no cable at all they slide so easily. We have a Gore display with metal, coated (teflon) and Gore cables where you can pull on all three to feel the difference. It's hilarious the difference is so astounding.

Either one is fine. I really hated that little metal clamp thing under the brake lever. I really believe they will do some redesign work on this. Feedback from their teams was not positive. I found the 7800 shifting to be superior.

Different strokes...

Listen to RW, he knows everything, and whatever he doesn't know botto knows. Sadly, they hate each other because RW is a GOP Nazi and botto is a flaming expatriate Obama Bleeding Heart Liberal.

They rely on Pcad, The Voice of BF Reason, to bridge the chasm.

It never works.

I agree. But the 7900 works fine, particularly with the new cables. The 7800 has a shorter throw to initiate a shift, that's the issue in my experience. But once you're used to it, the 7900 is OK.

There are also minor issues with Red that I've heard from users and my LBS, which would be beating a dead horse here. Like RW says, different strokes. It's all good, it all works. Again, when you're talking pricey bicycles, once you get over $3K or so, none of it sucks.

Yes, would the type of cable impact shifting that greatly?

The difference is, I'm correct. And for the record, I'm actually listed as "independent". I don't need anyone to tell me how to think. Especially someone in the f****ng government.

Case in point, I hear things are going well in Albany these days...this is what happens when lunatics get to be in charge.

Compared to Proposition 13 California, NY is the Model of Civic Responsibility. CA is essentially out of business, all because the legislature can't impose new taxes as needed for budgetary solvency.

Observe the carnage. This should get interesting now.

Absolutely. Without question.

The Gore stuff I am on now is unbelievable.

The friction in the housings with the cable has everything to do with the rapidness of the shifting. It's not even close.

Is that indicator usable in that position? It looks like it's angled away from you.

Did he invent that too?

The Internet. The subject of "A Love Story". They call him "Tex" for Gore tex.

Now bike cables and housings!!!!! Maybe he's "playing on my fears" of bad shifting on a climb.

Pcad...you rock.

Gore RideOn cables came standard with my Red group. This is different than what came with the Rival '09 group (standard SRAM cables). I thought Gore RideOn came standard with Red.

Do you know anything about Yokozuna Reaction cables? I want to try these out next time because CC makes it out like this is God's gift to man; I think they are getting kickbacks from Yokozuna. I mean, Red already shifts pretty darn fast with the Gore cables.

P.S. Di2 is the new 7800.

You might want to try 7900 with sis cables and then A-B that with Red and see what you think.

California does NOT have anything remotely approaching a revenue problem.......

For the cost of one Campy S Record crank, you can buy an entire Sram Rival groupset.

FWIW, the gore coating on my RED cables shredded, peeling off in clumpy sheets that gummed up the shifting.

Replacing the inner cables w/ just plain old cables fixed the problem.
