Tdf HD for real, I have seen it.
I just watched the Tour Preview on Versus HD - in full 1080p HD.
Oh man oh man. They weren't kidding. Full HD Tour coverage. I'm going to enjoy every bit of this. My 40" Samsung LCD with Cablevision DVR is already programmed. I will be recovering from my Fred rides in Endorphic Bliss watching the Tour in HD. It will be like Bike Weenie Sex on the Beach.

Wha? What cable company is broadcasting in 1080p? Not 1080i?

Also... I can't F'ing wait for Saturday. The 12 hours of HD coverage daily will obliterate everything else on the DVR. Bye bye Backyardigans...

Yeah, but it's no good if you're just watching hi-def advertising 70% of the time as you'll do on Versus.
And it's not Versus doing the filming.
It was sweet having the Giro on Universal Sports - first time I'd ever seen cycling on US terrestrial TV.

I DVR the early broadcast and then watch it in the evening when I can skip the ads. I just upgraded to VS-HD today...

I get excited when I see more mainstream and larger company commercials during the Tour. The better the sponsors paying for ads during the tour, the better coverage there will be and the more capable they will be to bring it to us for years to come. Hell, I even make sure I buy some of those products and make sure the companies know it. For instance Mitchum showed lots of ads one year so I tried it just because they helped bring us cycling on TV - and its the best pitstick I've ever used. Hampton Hotels - for general well priced lodging all over the country they are usually exceptional.

I loved that - AND I hope it will prove to have been a tipping point for US cycling broadcasts.

The point that was made, and that I agreed with, was how nice it was that the Giro was broadcast over the air. What was your point?

I am lucky I guess in that I have had VS both in regular and HD for a couple of years. The difference is pretty big in terms of quality. Now, where it really shines is when you play the F1 races through the surround sound system, in a dark room, on my 61" plasma. That IS sweet stuff. I am looking forward to tomorrow too, although I think the 12+ hr/day of broadcast is simply way too freaking much. I would gladly give up 2/3 of it in order for them to broadcast the Giro and the Vuelta or any other good race for that matter. 12 Hr of the tour on VS will basically be 11 Hr of Lance talk, 50 min of commercials, and 10 min of the actual race.

You've seen what? The TDF has even not started.
Versus content may be in HD, but will the French TV feed be in HD? It's never been before. Versus has no say in what is fed to them. I guess you'll find out Saturday AM.
HD Channel content(lack of) is currently the biggest rip off of pay TV. You pay for a full HD channel, but how much of it is in HD?
I for one don't miss VS. The commercials, the theme music. . . oh god that theme music every 8 minutes. I'd take commercial free in SD online any day of the week.

Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid and would record the radio on my boombox then listen to the show again, fastforwarding to my favourite songs. That was what? 1980-something?
ORRRRRRRRR.........
I LEAVE the television in the 20th century and watch it on this new crazy thing called "streaming video" on the intertubal stooper highways! I don't even have to listen to Phil and Paul's "indepth analysis" as they jerk it over Lance and the other American riders.
