Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Look 566

Well after suffering through some fit problems...I got a new bike. I wanted a bike that was comfortable for centuries and decided upon the 566. It turns out that when contacting look usa they had a new cofidis team color model.

I like it. One of my lbs's has a 566, in my size, presumably a special order that the customer backed out on. If only it wasn't about $1k out of my price range, I'd have it .

roadcycling.com has a good review. A buddy on my team has that bike and loves it. The rest of them have 595's and 585's. Not all of us have 2 g's for a frameset.

Very nice bike. Relaxed geometry is apparent in the top tube. Good for your centuries.

Well after two rides on the 566 all I can say is Wow. I'm coming from a 2000 Litespeed Tuscany that I built up with 10 speed ultegra. The 566 seems much more responsive under acceleration and really soaks up road vibration. I plan to put a toupe saddle on it this week. I was running a 143 toupe on the Tuscany and I really liked it. Other than the saddle and tires I'm keeping the bike just like it is.

Very nice bike. It's amazing how different the three bikes look (no pun intended). Are their 2010's coming out soon?

According to the look rep, the cofidis team color edition is a 2010 model. The wheelset was changed from fulcrum 7 to aksium and the bars are still FSA, but are not the carbon compact bars from 2009. They are still FSA compact bars, just not carbon.

So where do you live? I think I need to come over and do a "quality control" on your bike. Preferrably about 100 miles so by the time you figured out I am taking it....I am 100 miles away

In ordering the built-up 566 you have two options for cranksets - 50x34 or 53x39.

I currently ride a 53x39 Shimano 105 crankset. It has been fine. Living in NC and riding some moderate hills, but nothing to crazy. Should I stick with 53x39. 50x34 would be for more mountainous riding, correct?

As for the cassette - I currently ride a 12-25. For this there are a few options with some builds:
11-25
12-23
12-25
13-26
13-29
14-23

I'm thinking either the 12x25 or the 12x23. I use the 25 often, so I guess limiting myself wouldn't be a good idea?

My Felt F75 has a 50x34 (105) crankset on it though the LOOK 566 has a 53x39 crankset (rival) and it seems to be much smoother and overalls feels better for the style of riding I partake in. Around where I live their are alot of long flat straightaways and hills are few and far between.....

Think I've got it figured out, but just trying to finalze if the 566 small is a good fit.

566 size small geo.:
ST = 43.2
TT = 52.6
ST angle = 74.5
HT = 14.5
HT angle = 71.5

I am looking for a moderately upright position and not too much saddle-bar drop (say around 5-7 cm). Been having a decent amount of neck pain on my current daily ride. My nice day bike that fits me well:

Tommasini with traditional geometry:
TT = 53.7 (measured from c-c)
ST = 53.0
Stem = 8.5
Reach = 62.2
Saddle nose-middle bar = 51.7
BB-saddle = 70.6

My inseam = 80 cm
Height = 170 cm
Arm = 63 cm
Height = 170 cm

I've used a few fit calculators (Wrench Science & Competitive Cyclist) and the small seems to be a nice fit for me. I could get around the same reach as on my Tommasini by using a 95/100mm stem (100 + 526 = 626) which is nearly the same as the 622 reach I currently feel comfortable at.

The Competitive Cyclist fit calculator suggests I use a 53.1-53.5 TT for either the "competitive fit" or the "Eddy fit"...so I be right near that with the 526 TT of the 566...5 to 10 mm short. But, the medium sized frame would likely be to large (TT = 542). I know one of the design aspects of the 566 was the short TT, so this is not a surprise.

From what I can tell and without being able to sit on the frame, the small seems just about perfect for my body size & riding desires.

I know this is not an exact science nor easy via the internet, but I can't sit on the frame in person. If I get the right size, I'll look to have a proper fitting done in the near future.

I've also discussed this with the company I'm ordering from and they pointed me towards the small/51 ST size, but just wanted to get some more opinions before ordering.

I'd think with a 10cm stem the size S would be pretty good.

Cool, thanks Bruce!

Just trying to confirm as I'm ordering and would not like to have to build it up...then have to ship it back (if I even can).

Yeah, the XS sounds too small...650c wheels. I'm not that short

I did forget to take into account ST angle when comparing my fit on the Tommasini to the 566 geo, but yeah with all the math I was thinking I'd be good on the small size frame with a 10cm stem, as you think.

Thanks!
