sidi 5.5 vs. sidi ergo2
Does anyone have an opinion (based on experience) as to whether sidi ergo2 shoes are worth the xtra $ over sidi 5.5 carbon (or 6.6)?
I need to replace my trusty 5.5s and the only feature I can see that might be useful on the ergo2 is the heel adjustment thingy.
TIA

I went from 5.5 to 6.6 and I am not sure I like them better. They fit a little differently.

check backcountry.com (or outlet) reviews. I remember reading a review from a person that owned both 6.6 and ergo2. he told the difference was negligible IIRC.

I have genius 5s, 5.5s and 6.6s. My 5.5s are my 'everyday' shoes, and the 6.6s are my bling race shoes.
As far as I can tell, the only difference between the 6.6 and Ergo is that the Ergo has one of those fishing-line closer things instead of a velcro strap.
The 6.6s are a different-feeling shoe to the 5.5s: the 6.6 has noticeably stiffer sole, and seem to be firmer all over. The 6.6s feel a teeny bit bigger and wider. While the sole feels stiffer, I doubt it acutally makes any real "power transfer" difference, as some claim, but, as they say, the placebo effect can't be underestimated.
Stiffer soles are a little less comfortable, especially on warm/hard days. I think it's interesting that not all pros use carbon soles. Stiffer soles aren't for everybody.
I'm sceptical about most new 'bling', so I was suprised to find that I actually noticed a difference with the heel thing, and I like it. I've read people on here saying it does nothing, but I obviusly disagree.
I was also sceptical about the carbon sole, and was surprised that I noticed a difference.
Actually, I never intended to buy the 6.6s, and I expected all the extra bling would be a waste, but I was surprised all-round. I went to the shop to buy another pair of 5.5s, but the guy didn't have any, so he did me a good deal on the 6.6s.
Whether the extra money is worth it up to you, but if I was getting another pair I'd get 6.6s or Ergos

Velcro always seems to slip just a bit so I'd prefer the boa wire closure system thingie to the velcro on my 6.6s, but my budget can't justify it...especially with the deal I found on my shoes.

Let me first say that I love my Sidi Genius 5's. However, that is based on fit (size 51) and cost (less than $140).
Unless you are so deep into racing or posing that you require ultra-stiff, ultra-light, ultra-fashionable shoes, it is pretty difficult to justify a pair of cycling shoes that cost as much as a decent wheelset.

Thx for the editorial, but how do you know how much I can get them for? (hint: I would consider $140 for Genius 5's to be exorbitant)

I just replaced my Ergo1's with Ergo2s and they were worth the extra $$$. The heal retention system on the 2's is just fantastic, the soles are uber stiff and like every pair of Sidi's I've owned since 1989 they fit perfectly.

I agree. They're pretty good when they're new, but they start to 'dag out' after a while. One time, out of desperation, on my Genius 5s, I took those little red plastic hooks off, thinking they were stopping to velcro working properly. It didn't do much, but it didn't make them worse. I stiched 2 sets of new velcro onto my first pair -- what a pain!

Does anyone have an idea on how to adjust the heel piece on the Ergo2's? I'm afraid to just start screwing around with them but I wouldn't mind having them a bit tighter. The instructions don't exactly provide a clear way to do so.

just squeeze the two plastic wing things together (like you are pinching the achilles). you will see how the screws work. the (+) direction backs the screw out of the threads so you won't strip anything that way.

I average about 2.5-3 years per pair of cycling shoes, I ride about 6k miles a year + racing miles. I figure the shoes cost me about $130.00 bucks a year. Compared to what I spend on tires, cycling related food, chains, cassettes et al the shoes are a bargain.

I have a similar question, but mine is regarding genius 5 vs. 5.5. Is there any difference between these two models, besides price?
Not being a previous SIDI owner, how do the EU shoe sizes compare to the US counterpart? I usually wear a 10 or 10.5.
