Phil and Paul or Bob and Craig?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Phil and Paul or Bob and Craig?

I've been setting the DVR to record the earliest broadcast of the Tour, so I end up watching Phil and Paul.

Which broadcast do you watch and why?

bob and phil in the early am. the prime time b-cast is lame. too much other stuff and not enough racing. the am cast is live, which means that the producers don't have enuf time to put in stupid interviews and spots on so-and-so's new paint job on their bike....

I like Bob Roll - gives a down-to-earth analysis in his laid back style.

I find if I DVR the coverage, I can watch the whole thing in an hour, minus the millions of commercial breaks!

ITV4's highlight show torrented from the interwebs.

a). Because I don't own a cable box anymore (but have a big HDTV connected to a Mac)
b). I've had enough of Bob Roll to last a lifetime
c). I'm growing to like Chris Boardman
d). ITV's TDF bumper music is more catchy
e). ITV's is HD
f). No commercials, period.
g). Oh, I don't know, ITV shows racing, people on riding bikes
h). Phil and Paul are on the world fee most english speaking broadcasters us (win/win)

The Eurosport UK people sound like Mensa geniuses compared to the Versus commentary. I wish there was a way I could watch Eurosport rather than the VS feed. Yeesh.

Agreed, the "colonial clash" thing is bad. I really like Phil & Paul. Their humor is much less forced and I love the historical bits they give about whatever town they're going through. Plus Phil gets super heated during sprints and pronounces names correctly. I don't mind Bob, but Craig can be a bit of a pain in the ass

What is the file name of these ITV4 highlight shows? I'd like to get on that!

The only thing worse is Paul's inability to pronounce "Monaco" correctly and Phil's early-onset Alzheimer's that causes Paul to constantly have to correct him.

I used to like Phil and Paul, but after seeing and hearing the same old crap for year after year after year after year, I've finally started watching Craig and Bob; they're not much better, but at least they're different...

At this point I'll take Craig and Bob.

Hearing Phil and Paul blurt out "The God of Thunder" every six seconds is almost as bad as their inane sponsor-driven man-crush on Lance.

Bob at least doesn't take things so freaking serious. And the Bob Roll tribute video on the 7/7 evening broadcast from his 7-Eleven days was awesome.

Both.

I work from the house so I keep the live on in the morning, or watch in the late afternoon when I'm done working (I love how they rebroadcast the live version all day). Then I tivo the prime time and fast forward through it to only watch the intro analysis and then the special features, as I've already watched the racing with the better commentary from Phil and Paul.

Some features they did in the 80's that I haven't seen in a long time are showing what and how much food they eat, how they do all the laundry, the mechanics, morning rituals, the pimped buses, etc. They have done a little on the soigners.

I watch it on the versus internet stream. its great. no commercials. HD is over-rated if you're watching more commericals and bio segments then the actual race.

but it was either phil or paul who said on the first day said that Kenny Van Hummel would do an exceptional ride since he would be motivated being the first to go and it being his team's first TDF. Kenny Van Hummel - 179/180 +3:24.

I prefer Paul and Phil as their call is live. Bob and Craig have the benefit of knowing the results PLUS what Phil and Paul stated in their broadcast as they do theirs...and often we hear bits that sound like insight but really are nothing more than hindsight.

Now, if we could get Phil, Paul and Bob on the same live broadcast, that would be ideal.

Live > polished/prepackaged fluff

Americans commentating a bike race just doesn't sound right to me.

Bob & Paul. Phil strikes me as though he get's a $ for every time he mentions Lancelot's name. That will make him a very wealthy man by the end of the Tour. Levi's in the picture but, no, Liggett rambles on about Lance. Personally i hope Contador & Levi kick his butt in the mountains.
