Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra Cassett

Can I swap a 10 speed Ultegra Cassette in place of the original 9 speed Cassette I want to go from my 11-23 to a 12-27. Do i really gain anything by going to the 10 Speed? Are there any pitfalls or things i must look out for? Cable adjustment or chain length?

You need 10-speed shifters and a 10-speed chain. 9-speed derailleurs should work.

If you do a lot of high-speed group riding, then closer spaced gear ratios can improve your efficiency. Not by a huge amount, though.

You could get a 9 speed 12-27.

If you can't find a Shimano one, IRD makes them.
