so let me get this straight. you want to either set your ass on fire and dowse it with the moldable saddle, or you want to sit on a searing hot saddle so it will conform to your ass?
you first.
you first.

We do it with shoes and mouth pieces, why not?
Seems like a decent idea actually. I'm not sure how it would work in practice though, but I'd be willing to give it a shot.

don't be so quick to shoot down the idea...
aeo, suppose it comes with a heat resistant cover for when you do the molding.
dave, let's just say that it can withstand that kind of temperature.
at least to me, these are not terribly hard problems to solve.
i guess the point is, if there is something like that, would you give it a go?

well, the brooks takes about a month for it to break in, and it's not waterproof.
but it's not that big of a deal to me.

would suck if you lose or gain weight in the butt then have to get a new saddle. a regular saddle would probably be more forgiving

Sounds like an interesting idea, but I don't know if that will actually make the seat more comfortable. Should it be molded with the legs up, down, etc.?
Why do one first and the other later?

it might be a bit more awkward to mold it when sitting upright, then riding it hunched over.
but the biggest comfort from a saddle comes from the hammock effect, aside from having a plush spot for your sit bones.

Only 3 times, according to the manufacturers, but as AEO said, the sit bones won't move. The fat can just hang over a little more. My only reservation is that good saddles aren't just about shape, but about where the parts are that actually support the weight and contact points, how the rails are attached, and which parts flex and by how much.
Yeah, probably.
Yeah, probably.

Not sure this sounds like a good idea. The idea of most saddles is to put your weight on your sit bones. Having something heat molded to you just sounds like a more rigid way of moving some of that weight onto soft tissues that are less able to deal with it. Not unlike heavily padded gel saddles, which I for one, can't stand.

Right, but the most comfortable seats (at least in my experience and with most people I've spoken with) seem to be the ones that put the pressure on the tough areas and leave the soft areas alone. I don't need to pressure to be distributed to my perenium or prostate.
