Camelback Podium bottle users

How do you clean the 'mouth piece'/sipping part of the bottle. Mine looked like it had some gunk in there but I can't take the plastic tip off to clean it.

Help?

Edit: Title is supposed to say Camelbak. I don't know what happened...

And there I was, going through life happily, never even thinking of having to clean mine.

Thanks. Thanks a lot.

Scrub it with detergent and a toothbrush. Also, dip it in bleach for a few minutes.

You can't get into the sides with a brush though. I tried a big brush, but I'll try a toothbrush later. I don't think it'll solve the issue.

Ok, serious answer...
I used straight distilled vinegar to get algae off my saltwater fish tank pumps. Maybe try that? Soaked them overnight.

I run some bleach or Listerine through mine periodically. I also saw another post somewhere saying that you can take the valve apart to clean it, but it is quite delicate.

Soak in a little bleach if necessary. And use these:

You can actually take apart the tip. The rubber tip pulls off. Inside there is a plastic retainer that holds the blue diaphragm in. Once the three parts are separated they are easy to clean and reassemble. This is the only way I have been able to totally clean each piece of that dreaded black gunk.

Great. Now I have to pull my bottles apart and pray there is no "black gunk". LOL

malpag3 07-14-09 10:41 AM

Oohhh...I never have looked at it before and now you ruined it! Ack.

I wash bottle after every use with a scrub brush. While there is still soapy water in the sink, I fill the bottle, put the lid on, and squirt it a couple times. Then, I rinse the bottle and lid, and refill the bottle with fresh water, put the lid on, and squirt it a couple times. I set the lids for all my water bottles on the ledge over the sink so they get some sun. It takes less than a minute.

Clean lids.

I tried pulling the tip off but it wouldn't budge. Is there some way to unlock the assembly from the inside first?

bdcheung 07-14-09 02:40 PM

I just twist the blue mouthpiece and pull it off.

pft. ive been drinking with that black crud in there for months.

hot water after every ride, air dry, drink black crud. no sickness.

Rinse after use, then put empty (or refilled) into the fridge. I then put in the dishwasher occasionally. Works for me.

I never knew the the tops came apart. I've tried, but never got them.
