There are helmets that have "webbing" to cover the vents from bugs (flys, bees, etc...).
I have a UVEX helmet that has these coverings on the front vents which I guess can be helpful... This topic of bees sting heads from entering the helmet vents has been discussed before...
However, the specialized vents didn't protect my face from being stung!

it happens. a few years ago a female friend of mine was wearing a low cut sport tank top (like the ones that female runners usually wear) on an afternoon ride, and she got stung by a bee right at the top of her cleavage. we actually laughed about it for weeks after it happened...

On my mountain bike, I've been stung on the inside of my mouth, just under the lower lip while bombing a fairly technical downhill single track...it hurt...a lot.

Get a helmet with a mesh or wear a cap / bandana (for extra Pantani points) under your helmet.
Get rid of your current helmet:

the flowers look cute on you but the bees love 'em

I've never been stung on the top of my head. Ouch!
I've lost count of the stings from bees between the helmet straps and my head, and a few inside my mouth (tongue, lip, inside of cheek). I'm a heavy mouth breather when I'm riding I guess.

geez maybe that's what I have! i got this huge itchy red spot ever since my ride last week in the same spot as you! on my thigh, aout two inches below the crotch area on the inner thigh. About where the bike shorts end. And there's a kind of long wiggly line extending out from it...this happened once before on my arm. I didn't even remember getting bitten! totally weird...it never occured to me it was a spider but i think it was!

uh guys, every single spider bite needs to be treated immediately. Some bite poison causes necrosis over time. Not trying to scare you but google it.

I have sucked a few in myself. It is amazing how fast they sting you. I had one last Saturday, it just hit my lip and entered my mouth a bit, I spit it out instantly, but it still got me. Took several hours for the swelling to do down.

When bugs fly into my helmet, I shake my head to dislodge them. If that doesn't work, don't stick your fingers in there-- you'll get stung for sure. Instead, remove the helmet and use the strap on the back to brush the critter off your head.

I often have something fly into my helmet vents and sometimes feel it moving around, hoping that it will find its way back out. I do my best to ignore it, but after about 10 -15 miles of feeling it wiggle, I'll stop for a drink and pull off the helmet to see whose been hitching a ride. The last time it was a huge beetle the size of my thumb.

One time a bee hit my sunglasses and went under it and stung the corner of my eyes. I am still surprised that I wasn't wiped out completely.

This morning I sucked a bug into a vent. I used to always assume any bug in my helmet was a bee and have in the past demonstrated some amazingly fast helmet removing. Since this was often accompanied by swerving all over the road, I've convinced myself to react a bit more calmly.
For some reason this morning I thought 'I'm sure it's not a bee' and just stuck my finger in to try to flick it out. Got stung right on the top knuckle on my index finger. Hurts a lot less than it did when I was a kid, although I do recognize that not all stings are created equal.

The guy that was pulling our paceline in a group ride about 6 weeks ago northeast of Austin was hit by a hawk that came out of a bar ditch on the right side of the road. Luckily, he was only hit on his arm by the hawk's wing as it crossed in front of us. But, for a second there, it looked like it could be ugly. That bird had about a 5 foot wingspan.

I've been stung by bees 3 times this season:
Once while climbing a hill on my stomach
A second time on a sprint, again on my stomach
Third time on a mountain bike ride, down a rocky downhill.
BTW, I am wearing clothing while I ride, but I have no idea how all these bugs get in.
