Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2010 CAAD 9-5 Information

I just got off the phone with Cannondale Customer Service, in search of info on the 2010 CAAD 9-5. The final specs are not yet available, but this is what I have been able to confirm:

What will remain the same:
The CAAD 9 will still be handmade in Pennsylvania , until all production shifts to Taiwan in 2011.
(All 2010 carbon frames will be produced in Taiwan)
Same wheelset as 2009.
Same Shimano 105 group.
Same Tektro brakes.

What will change:
BB30 Bottom Bracket.
FSA Gossamer Crank

My LBS quoted me $1299.00 for a complete CAAD 9-5.
Cannondale tells me that they expect the first CAAD 9-5 bikes to ship to dealers in early August.

If anyone else has additional info, please post it here!

Hot damn, if the 9's are going to have BB 30...

Actually, wait. That doesn't matter. I don't have a bb30 crank that I want to use.

In regard to the 2010 CAAD 9-5, the Customer Service Representative told me that "the final specs are not yet out" and she said that the aspects that are not 100% finalized are mostly aesthetic, "such as graphics".

The Customer Service Rep told me that "2009 is the last year that Cannondale will produce carbon frames in the USA", and that "all Cannondale production will move to Asia for the 2011 model year." It appears, Alancw3, that the answer to your question is yes; the 2010 super six will be manufacturered in Taiwan. (Assuming the info I got is correct)

Sweet.

I talked to them last week, or maybe it was the week before, and asked about the CAAD9 with Rival.

They said they didn't have any information yet and that I should call back.

Got the same from my Cannondale shop after they called.

I think I will be making a phone call.

Call the number for the Pennsylvania factory at 1-800-BIKE-USA. They were very helpful. When I called the other number (corporate headquarters at 203-749-7000), they didn't seem to know anything.

Will even the cheapest CAAD 9 get the BB30?

My LBS quoted me $1299.00 for a complete CAAD 9-5.
That's the same price as the '09's, right? So prices remain the same? Thanks.

The CAAD 9 will still be produced in the USA until 2011.

I'm not sure about the bottom bracket on the cheaper models, as I only inquired about the CAAD 9-5.

$1,299.00 is what a LBS quoted me, but they didn't seem to know much about anything and were more interested in selling me a Specialized instead. When I asked the salesman which Specialized model was most comparable to the CAAD 9-5, he replied "Stump Jumper". I'll be making my purchase elsewhere. Since the final specs "are not out yet". I don't think it's safe to assume that the price will be exactly the same.

I've seen that article, but I was interested in the CAAD 9-5, specifically.

Update:
I just met with a Cannondale Rep today, and the price of the Cannondale CAAD 9-5 went up $100.00.
That's not bad considering that it now is specd with a full carbon fork and a BB-30.
The 2 colors are a medium blue and a charcoal grey metalic.

Man, I can't believe they didn't keep the white/red.

IMHO, that was beautiful.

Yeah I found a new LBS, which is a lot closer and better.

I just happened to pop into a local shop when the Cannondale representative was there addressing some warranty issues. The rep had the full 2010 Cannondale brochure, and he was able to answer any questions I had. I placed my order on the spot. According to the rep it should arrive in the first week of August, but I have a feeling I'll be waiting a little longer than that, which is fine considering how hot it is here now. (I also told him that he should "have a talk" with that other shop.)

I'm exited to soon own my first "real" road bike and, as the rep put it, the first 2010 CAAD9 in South Florida.

Yes. I did see a SRAM build in the brochure. I don't remember if it was Force or Rival, nor do I remember if it was $1600 or $1700, but either way it's a killer deal. I would like to splurge on it, but it's just not in my budget for now. 105 is more than I need for the time being.

Now that I think about it, I think the $1600-$1700 option was a Rival build. I hear good things about Sram. Perhaps I'll upgrade to Force in lieu of Ultegra or Dura Ace, when the time comes.
