A great debate shall begin - Best beer for a roadie

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What heresy listed would work. For the summer probably a Weihenstephnaner hefe or some good Beligian white. IPA for the fall.

On the rare occasion I get beer, I get barley wine. I don't want intense hops or burned crap.

I want beer that just happens to be 20 proof or higher. I used to make a barley wine,
I only had 2 bottles at one sitting once. Made walking a bit difficult.

This, though, is a valid contender...

Funny you mentioned Leffe.
It seems to be the most often copied beer by micro-breweries in the US,but with little success in matching flavor and body.
The price of $9-$10 a six pack is a bit steep but this beer is rated one of the best in Europe.

1-1/2 cup good (100% agave) tequila
1/2 cup triple sec
2/3 cup sugar

Some home made chips and home made salsa.

New Belgium is overrated as a brewery. Sorry - but their beers are blah.

Odell and Oscar Blues are easily better breweries in the Colorado area.

I could go for a Ten Fidy right about now.

La Folie from New Belgium is wonderful. Otherwise, I tend to agree. Still, their product is much better than most of the swill out there.

You have a big 'fridge

Favorite 'go to' brewery: Harpoon. After doing their Brewery 2 Brewery ride, and the Pan Mass Challenge, I am a loyal customer for life. Currently enjoying their UFOs and Summer Beer.

For premium, go with anything Belgian.

Negro Modello is the only Mexico beer which even comes close to being a real beer. Otherwise, Mexican beer is designed for its inhabitants...poor peasants and stupid tourists.

The irony given the history is great.

Saranac Black and Tan is a close approximation of this mix as well, but it comes in one bottle.

Again - most of the big micro-brewers (Sam Adams, New Belgium) do not really make anything interesting. Sam Adams high, high end stuff is good, but it is rare occasion beer. Standard micro-brews (i.e. - daily drinks) are their most exciting coming out of some of the smaller, local breweries where they are really challenging and pushing the limits. Some of the triple-hopped beers are amazing, and like Peated Scotch, once you go there, all other drinks pale in comparison.

Actually, most Mexican beers are designed for American's tastes. And, seeing that the last 10 generations of Americans have been taught to drink ice cold piss water, that's what most have come to expect.

On the other hand, the best beer is the beer any particular person likes best.
