Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Botto means that the French countryside is VERY quiet. There are some cars and an incidental farmer on a tractor but that's it. And the people tend to stay inside their houses out of the sun at midday

This is fantastic. I often forget to look up and enjoy the scenery on many of my rides. In Burgundy, it might be a little easier. Thanks for sharing.

Try reading that note looking down from the saddle when it's NOT upside down! If you put that note in the bottle holder on seattube it has to be upside down

Thanks for the post!

One of the best things about riding in France is the enforced and respected 1.5 meter passing rule. I only rode there for a month but coming back to the New York City area it has been difficult to get used to how clueless most drivers are here. I've been trying to replicate the quiet roads by heading further and further east on Long Island.
