Look Cleat Setting
 

I just purchased Look CX-6 pedals for my road bike with red floating cleat. Any special instructions / tips for installing the cleat on the shoe - I know that cleat placement can have a major influence on comfort, etc.

Generally set up is placing the ball of the foot over the pedal axle and pointing the toe straight ahead. Ride it for a few miles and see how it feels. If you have knee pain or foot pain adjust to relieve the pain.

It's definetly a trial and error thing. Some high end shops or shops really into racing and triathlon events have a fit kit and can assist you with this as well as proper position of the body on the bike.

Go to a local shop and get fit. It's not worth injuring your knees.

I agree with the earlier poster. Usually the cleats should be under the ball of the foot, you can then make minor adjustments from there. The 'red' Look cleats allow plenty of 'arc' movement, so you shouldn't feel 'locked' into one place., so hopefully, even if you don't get it exactly right, you probably aren't risking much in the way of knee problems.This is further complicated by your choice of pedal, rather than the cleat. You do realise that the CX6's also allow 'Q' factor adjustment ?. If you aren't confident with this adjustment get the LBS you bought them off to help you set them up......Good choice of pedals!,

I like to set the cleats so the heal just grazes the crank at that end of the float. I figure my foot doesn't want to go any further in than that and there is plenty of float to the outside.
