Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Look 566 or Felt F5 Sl?

I know I know another what bike should i get thread. I'm torn on which one i should get. I would have to built the Felt and that could be fun, but I think I might like the Look 566 better. Any thoughts on which one I should buy?

Ok well let me put it this way. Which would be the better purchase a Felt F5 Sl frame with a Shimano Ultegra groupset and other things for around $2,200 or a Look 566 with a SRAM Rival groupset for $2,699? Which makes more sense and gives me more bang for the buck. Thanks.

Even though I have a soft spot for Looks, I really don't like the angles on the 566. Though, I hear the ride is impressive.
if you want to learn how to fix your bike, and like the felt, go with the felt.

so... if you're asking me which one to buy.... whichever one you like better.

I am more partial to Look than Felt. Nothing objective, but I just like Look more. Maybe an age thing with me, since I drooled over them as one of the limited few carbon frame makers of the 90s. However, with that said, I don't dig the "bent" top tube of the 566.

How about the Felt w/Rival? You could upgrade the wheels for even money over the Look's F7s by going with the Felt build. To me, that is a 'better purchase'...since you asked. They are apples and oranges though. Test ride them both. You can certainly ride the F4SL stateside to get the feel of an Ultegra Felt build. You ought to try the Z series as well since you are looking at the look (compact geometry).

FYI: Im still happy with my rig and I could have easily gone all Chorus or better for less than the price of that Look.

I've been a fan of LOOKs since I saw one of the first carbon framesets hanging in an LBS.

As for the 566 - the "bend" in the TT isn't really that pronounced in person, in my opinion. I mean, it's not an optical illusion in the picture above, but the frame is so nice that you don't really notice is that much. Too busy looking at the lines and paint!

As for which route to go - if you are savvy you can piece together exactly what you want for similar price points. Using UK dealers with 2009 gruppo deals and free shipping you can set it up in whatever way you like. Though, I do realize most U.S. dealers aren't selling just the frameset.

Isn't the Felt much more traditional geometry though? The point of the 566 is to take LOOKs race geo and shorter the TT and lengthen the HT. Thus, these bikes might ride much differently.

I PM'd you regarding the pics.

The forks are ever so slightly different in that the F5 gets the 1.4 and the F4 has a 1.3 (slightly lighter). Note that I do NOT have an OEM fork on my rig. I installed a Columbus Tusk Light with the aluminum insert from Cape Cod instead.

https://cgi.ebay.com/2009-Felt-F5-SL-...3A1%7C294%3A50

So this is the frame i am looking at. So as i read about building your own bike i keep seeing that installing a headset is a difficult task. It looks like this already has that done, does it or would i still have to mess with that? Also bear with me hear Im not a cycling genius, but the head tube coming out looks really long, does that go down or do you cut it or how does that work? Thanks really appreciate the help.
