DT 240s or Tune Hubs
 

I've search the forums for a comparison, but have not got any solid comparisons. Any owned both and can give a reasonable comparison (performance-wise, maintenance-wise, and durability-wise)? Tunes have become difficult to get in the US and the prices are way up. I'm trying to justify the cost.

I plan to go with XR-300s, cx-rays, and either of those 2 hubs. I am 175lbs and thinking 24/28.

Anyone have an estimate for the wheel set mass differences as well?

I can't vouch for the other hubs, but a friend bought some used Reynolds wheels with DT240s (they're Reynolds branded hubs, but made by DT). The freehub body didn't coast properly. DT worked with my friend and got them fixed.

For customer service, DT is at the top of my list.

Alchemy ELF for the front

+1 - adding that you could replace that DT 240 with an Alchemy ORC alter this fall when they become more available.

Since building your ELF wheel I have done more and I still can't get over the quality and the beefiness and light weight. Jeremy killed it on that one.

Definately. By far the nicest front hub I have ever seen. Best bearings, flange width, finish, overall quality and especially weight. Honestly my favorite hub out there and they come in black and silver and tons of drillings. Most lightweight hubs dont come in 28 or 32.

I have the same build but with DT Comp spokes and 20/24. I'm 175#. Really nice set. Can't speak for the Tunes, but I don't think you can go wrong with the 240s's.

At 175 lbs you can get away with 20/24? Are the DT Comp spokes more stout than the CX rays?

Love my 240s but you gotta watch out for excessive wear on the freehub body.

The Tunes are great hubs. I do lots of builds with them and for their weight the only hubs that can beat them are Alchemys. I would say that they are a great upgrade if your looking to save weight.

DT240's for me. Light, easy to service, easy to get parts etc - and they sound awesome!

Too many problems with creaking Tune Hubs - especially if you do 400k weekly or more.

Otherwise I think it's hard to go past Record/Dura-Ace hubs on training wheels. Loose ball hubs that roll forever and are light enough. They also save you $$ significantly over the DT/Tunes.

The Hope hubs are nice also...
