Why aren't there women cyclists in the Tour?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why aren't there women cyclists in the Tour?

Only to the geeky men. When I make "nerd" references, the nerd men find it hot. The non-nerds just stare at me blankly because they didn't get it.

If you didn't watch it, the women's road race during the Bejing Olympics was among the most exciting sporting events I've seen in a long time.
