Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

...somebody considerably more delusional than you are. God there really are some imbeciles in this idiot sport. For some reason it does attract people with a Walter Mitty complex.

Discuss.

Slowest and most delusional.

Don't derail the thread, it's only 5 posts old.

I just finished reading Danny Kaye's memoir and there was an anecdote in there where Danny recalls how one day he was out riding his $100 bike in a wool 3 piece suit and cap-toe oxfords and he blew past some poseur cyclist riding an $800 bike and wearing a full team kit.

I find it hard to believe that in the time period that D. Kaye would have been cycling you could find a bicycle that cost as much as $800.

There was a black and white photograph in the book showing the bike, and while it was sexy and cutting edge, it had terrible cable routing.

I've been on the bike for about 1 of the past 3 months & can barely touch my fingertips to my knees (herniated disc), will be turning 40 in 2 months and am tipping the scales ~86kg -- yet I'm still holding onto hopes of winning the 100th TDF (in 2013).

Is the OP trying to tell me that I'm delusional?

God. What a poser. Good thing at least one of our personalities is a Cat 3 racer.

Ironically, the other is a hipster with an un-natural fondness for girls jeans and 12-ers of PBR.

Mitty delusioned himself with a broad range of professions (interests). Us on BF just delusion ourselves with one single thing- making Pcad cry. So, quite different if you ask me.

Holy crap, why didn't I think of that?

TDF is a slight stretch anyway and I've always considered the one days more exciting than the tours and perhaps a truer test of determining the strongest rider.
