Group Set?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

For the Shimano line, 105 is a good groupset, but for the price and weight, Rival is one of the best out there

Tiagra is great for the price, the latest iteration is almost identical to 105 minus one speed.

Buy Campagnolo; start with a Veloce gruppo ..... that off brand stuff like Shimano and SRAM will only give you problems

Well it still costs more. Bang for the buck, Rival is probably top dog. Should note though, a deciding factor may be the shape of the shifter and how it fits into your hand. I know some who cannot stand Campy for that reason alone. I know another who doesn't like the shape of the SRAM shifter (you could give her a Red gruppo and she wouldn't use it).

Selecting a group is like buying a pistol. How it feels, the way it works and its price are up to you to decide if you like or not.

Find a shop and ride stuff.

It's really hard to buy something that sucks these days.

A mix of Tiagra & 105 makes a good group but you must mix & match wisely.
