Plain Black Jersey?
Does anyone make a solid black short sleeve jersey? I've looked, but can't find one?

I have two from Descente but I got them about 5 years ago.

MEC sells some here in Canada. http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_l...=1249234760247

you don't look very hard, do you?
black jersey's look dumb IMO |
Mmmm....solar panels.

I dont know why people would want black jerseys... I know we could fight endlessly about this, but black just doesn't seem visible to me in the slightest. Plus the sun just beats down on you in black. But, c'est la vie.

You need something reflective to catch attention of drivers and other cyclists. Unfortunately, a drunk driver killed a local biker competing in a triathlon in a local park just yesterday. Sad sad day. Please be alert, safe, and visible.

This is a very good reason for wearing a black jersey in cooler temps, at least a tight fitting jersey - it will retain the sun's heat better than, say a white jersey. |
I have three plain black jerseys.
One is a sleeveless jersey which I got from Nashbar. I like it because it is different from my other jerseys ... it's cut low in the neck and has a little collar, so it doesn't look like a jersey at first glance. It also very comfortable - a lovely soft material. One is a thin long-sleeved jersey which I got from MEC. Also very comfortable and makes a great base layer on cooler rides. One is a thick, fuzzy long-sleeved jersey which I got from Nashbar. It's beautifully warm and soft and I use it as a top or mid-layer on cold rides. I've also got a plain black merino wool top I use as a base layer for cycling. |
Black is a good color for a cycling jersey if you want to be invisible to car drivers.
|
What a load of BS. We are already invisible no matter the colors we wear. To say contrary is deluding yourself. If the OP wants a black jersey then he should get one.
|
+1 veloware. They also have black in sleeveless if interested.

My dad always hassles me to wear one of those neon construction shirts. I think it is rediculous to think a cyclist is invisible, when I'm driving I can spot them a mile up the road no matter what colour they are wearing.

If you assume drivers can't see you, then you will ride with more awareness -- paying attention to the drivers, keeping out of their way, riding predictably so you don't scare the drivers into doing something stupid, etc. |
Not quite solid black, but close and classy in my opinion. Now if I only had the extra $$ to buy this Rapha jersey in white:

I have an Etxe Ondo solid black, or a knock off... bought it from a sale rack at the CSC Challenge a few years back. I wore it today.

I've got a Pearl Izumi jersey that's all black except for some brown on the shoulders with the logo and reflective piping along the tops of the pockets.

No F++cking way am I wearing a black jersey. If you think because you can see whatever from however far away that makes you safe, then you have a false sense of security. Maybe you can see, but a lot of impaired, older drivers cannot. Many minivans with handicapped plates are piloted by people who have very questionable driving skills and senses of perception. My mother is one such person. I only ride in obnoxious bright colors, especially yellow because of this.
Last week I actually had an elderly driver come closer to me as they passed, and stayed left of the line for a while after. Safety over fashion from this quarter. |
