BB30 Crankset

Ok, I couldn't pass up a good deal on a new 2007 Cannondale Synapse SL frame. I had been planning a new bike project, but not one needing a BB30 crankset. I don't want to spend a ton of money on the crank, and I was wondering what some good options might be. Anyone have any suggestions?

BTW, I collected some Dura Ace 7800 parts for the build, but I'm not opposed to selling them and starting from scratch. Also, I would prefer not to use the adapter for std. cranks. Thanks!

Cannondale Si cranks!

The new SRAM Force BB30 crank has got to be the best value. Anything but FSA.

Why not FSA? I'm trying to order a Caad9 with a FSA. thanks

Why not just get the adapter and use the DA cranks you have?

You can also go on eBay to find Cannondale cranks. The carbon ones tend to be more readily available and a lot less expensive.

The aluminum ones are much better, and lighter.

These seem to have the best price/weight ratio for BB30. Also, if you need 172.5 you should check out ExtraLight.

The parts I purchased were going to be for a cross bike, so the crank is an R700. I could use the adapter, but I figured I would try the BB30 with the lower "Q".

Among bike mechanics, FSA is known to stand for Front Shfting Abnormalities.

I would recommend the hologram cannondale crank, if you can get your hands on one for a reasonable price.

Get the BB30 adapters from Campagnolo and install a Veloce/crank gruppo on it.

Sorry rich...

DA>Veloce...

Flatballer 08-03-09 07:26 PM

Hologram > Force (not until Sept 09) > anything else.

The s-works crankset is nice

That lightning one? I hadn't heard much about it, looks awesome though.

I'm not disagreeing. There's a reason the carbon SI cranks are in a box in my garage and the aluminum ones are on my bike.

But the carbon ones can be had for about half the price of the aluminum ones, if that is a concern, and they are still lighter and stiffer than almost anything else out there.

lamazion 08-04-09 12:42 PM

Ok, I appreciate the input so far. I'm having no luck finding the aluminum SI cranks, but I have seen several of the carbon. I've only heard of one person who has purchased the 2010 Force cranks for BB30, and they got them as part of a group. Anyone know where to get them and how much they are selling for?

Flatballer 08-04-09 12:59 PM

Someone already has the BB30 Force crankset? It's not supposed to come out until September from what I heard.

Can you verify that someone actually has them in hand?

you can find more information if you search, but as a user of the s-works bb30 carbon crankset is, indeed, very nice. the OP can find more on it with a search.

i find it light and stiff in comparison to other fsa and shimano (ultegra, not DA) cranksets i've used. i'm sure others have compared it to DA cranks, but i don't have any personal experience.
