Float on Red Keo Cleats
I bought a new pair of shoes and, with them, a new pair of Keo cleats. I have the Keo Carbons on my bike. The salesman recommended these red cleats with "grip" pads that seemed like a cool option. Turns out, however, that these red cleats have a lot more float than my old grey cleats. I was pretty happy with the amount of float on the greys, and worry that the red cleats might have too much float, especially when I'm out of the saddle sprinting and my heel is smacking the chainstay.
Anybody like the extra float of the reds?

My knee pain went away when I went to the red cleats from the grey ones. Also the cleats with the rubber already on are awesome and reAlly help when walking. No need for cleat covers.

The grippy parts are to help with walking, not float. You bought red cleats with more float then greys, while blacks have no float.

No, I like less float. I've never tried reds, but I don't think I would like them.

My right knee is splayed outwards and I use a red cleat for that foot. Actually, since I am lazy I use red for both feet. However, I found a grey on the left foot worked well.
Now I have been noticing quite a bit of heel wobble. Hmmm...

I like the reds and prefer the greater degree of float. But if you prefer the gray ones (obviously there are lots of people who do or they wouldn't make them!), PM me- I just bought a new pair of Keo's for my wife's bike and they came with gray cleats. We'll trade you.

I believe the red cleats have 9 degrees of float compared to the grey cleats which have 4.5 degrees; I have the grey cleats which work fine.

I use the red cleats. Those rubber pads suck, so I use the ones without.

Thanks for all the replies! I think I'm going to head back to the LBS and have them swap out the red cleats for some grey ones. The float seemed fine for me with the grey ones, and a bit too weird/loose with the red.

i've tried all 3. i started off with the gray ones, because they came with my Keo Carbon's, and i liked them. then, i tried the red ones when my gray ones wore out and HATED them, WAY too much float. then, i tried the black ones, and haven't looked back.

I switched to the reds thinking that it would help with some knee pain I was having. Didn't seem to make much difference, and I believe the pain was caused by a combination of mashing a big gear and slightly off saddle height and fore/aft. The red cleats seem fine, but took me a little while to get used to them, on my first ride, I accidentally unclipped while out of the saddle, and my heel also sometimes hits the crank. I'll probably go back to the gray cleats when these wear out...

Look cleats
I think the grays have plenty of float..I have some knee and alignment issues and have never had a problem with them. I've not tried the reds, but I would think they could be a little sloppy with too much float..
Just another opinion..

Score another for the red. I prefer the float. I'm ok with the greys, though. I can't do no float.

I suppose I hinted at my issue with red cleats.
Now I am wondering if anyone else notices their heel wobble when using a pedal with excessive float?
I think now that I have my cleats adjusted better I may try less float if this will fix it. I'm not exactly sure it is an issue but it sure looks odd.

I'm running the gray cleats with grip and didn't think I'd like them but they're not as bad as I thought they would be. Clipping in has to be more precise because if you don't then the grip will make it hard to adjust quickly but I like them when I commute in the city.

I just wish the little rubber pads on them weren't quite so fragile. I've got only a few hundred miles on mine, and the rubber is starting to come apart.
