Am I wrecking my Fred street cred?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Am I wrecking my Fred street cred?

I don't know what's gotten over me. I normally ride all my bikes often, but I haven't been on a 'bent for over a month.

Last night, I actually special ordered bottle cages for my commuter. The shop had a number of cages that I could have used, but my sense of aesthetics would not allow me to buy the wrong color or the wrong style

However, I have been using my mirror on every ride...

Poseurdom has always been with you. It's just as you get older the willpower gets weaker and the poseur genes start to exert themselves.

It's useless to fight it now . . . the force is strong.

Relax and enjoy your new self . . . . you'll wonder why you didn't give in ages ago.

I thought most people become more Freddish with age.

I suspect I didn't give in earlier because I didn't have to kid myself as much as I do now. I used to just be able to ride, but it gets harder to fool people as you become weaker.

So I started shaving my legs and spending serious money on my habit so people might mistake me for a cyclist. Right now, my commuter is in the office with the pedals perfectly in the 9 and 3 o'clock positions, big ring on front, middle on the back for my officemates to notice. It's gotten so bad that some days I've actually let the color of the bike I'm riding affect which kit I don. If I can't ride worth a damn, at least I can look better doing it.
