Difference in Campy and Shimano?

Hi guys out there,

What is the difference between fixing up a campy groupset and a shimano groupset? Is there anything extra to take note of? Thanks.

Regards,
Yangster

I have Campy on my road bike, and Shimano on my touring bike.

Best FD shifting: Campy
Best RD shifting: Shimano
Best brifters: Campy
Brifter serviceability: Campy serviceable, Shimano disposable

The touring bike is used for steep mountain climbs with a heavy rider, and has a mix of road/mtn parts that provide low gearing that can't be duplicated with Campy parts.

hmm, what i mean is when fixing up the parts on to a frame, is there any difference on the method to put them on ?

There may be minor differences in cable routing. Fundamentally, they are very similar in the context of your question.

Campy has 11-speed
Shimano has Di2

/thread.

There was a rumor that Campagnolo is going to be a Japanese or Taiwanese company soon. The difference will end at this point.

Pretty much the same as far as mounting goes.

The Shimano can put out more watts than the Campagnolo.

I was really hoping for an internet slap fight about this. I used to moderate a cycling forum and there was a huge unfriendly debate about the relative merits of each. There were deletions, warnings, people pretending to be a different person to back up their original claims, and bannings. It's funny now, but at the time it was simply annoying.

To answer your question, there isn't much difference in the approach to how both models work, are installed, or function. Do you have a more specific question?

I think you would need different tools for the bottom bracket. Otherwise common tools will work (allen & torx wrenches, box ends & screwdrivers). Not sure if that answers your question because you're not very specific.

You can't do much fixing to Shimano shifters, other than sending them back to Shimano for warranty repairs or buying a new set of them.

I think that everyone wore them selves out over this argument.

navyasw02 08-12-09 12:40 PM

Campagnolo sounds a lot classier.

The only difference is the RD alignment. Campy RD pulleys are centred with cable adjustment on the 4th cog. Shimano you just set the limits.

Whoa. You have a Cervelo now? :innocent:

Campy is made by artisans of cycling components. Shimano is made by scientist who constantly test their products until they get the best out of what they can.
