Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

opinion please.. '05 Cannondale R500 or a '07 Raliegh Grand Sp

Hello All. Im a newbie here but want to get back into biking. I have 2 friends with bikes they are looking to sell. One has an '05 Cannondale R500 with 50 miles on it for $500. The other has an '07 Raliegh Grand Sport with 1800 miles on it but freshly tuned and new tires for $400. Based on these reviews and the listed componets...which bike and price should i go for. And are both prices reasonable? Let me knw what you think. Here is a link for a side by side review of each. Thanks, Mark

Its from Bike- Pedia ----> Below the bikes listed years is the side - by - side comparison button. Just select 2005, cannondale & then R500 and it compares the two.

Whichever one fits. If they both fit, get the R500 but offer him $400.

both fit well. and was thinking the same about the $400. spec wise, which is the better of the 2? i want to think that the cannondale is the better of the 2 but i want to make sure that its not just because i have heard that the sannondale is a better all around line of bikes. dont want to pass a good deal.

I've never ridden older Tiagra but I'm betting it's better than '07 Sora because pretty much anything is better than Sora. The Cannondale is a CAAD4(5?) frame which is a great frame that you could easily keep for a whole and upgrade later on if/when the Tiagra wears out.
