DT lever, 7 sp. upgrade to 10 sp. ? ( cheap. )

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

DT lever, 7 sp. upgrade to 10 sp. ? ( cheap. )

Rule #1 : ( per carlounge.com ... post a pic of whatever the f, you are talking about ... )

Since, my recent RD demise ... chain-drop nightmare @ 25 mph . ( fun ... )

Looks do-able, for around ~ 400 $ WITH Dura-ace components. ( the shiny silver ones, 7800 ? )

levers - 80 ( STI's are going to have to wait ... )
FD - 80
RD - 150
Chain - 30
Cassette - 60 ( Remove the 3 largest gears, and use with current wheel set/hub. New TBA. )

If not , tell me WHY it wont work .

- or -

Sell bike ... for fixie conversion, maybe get 200$ for it & use that and above 400$ to buy *sweet* ( ) alu. bike with 8 sp. Sora comp.

You can get near full 10spd groups for about that price....with levers.....why not just go that route?

What wheel are you using with it? That doesn't look like a 7spd hub in the picture...is it an 8/9 with a spacer added?

If you go your DA route...why not also get the downtube shifters for DA? Around $90 if you look hard enough.

Bar end shifters would also be a great idea. Cheap too. If you get 8 or 9 speed, parts can be found inexpensively.

The good news :

LBS was nice enough to test fit, a new 10sp. 105 cass... seems to fit my 8sp. hub/ wheel. Interesting. No need to modify cass ... : o)

The bad :

They do want 180$ for the DA-7800 RD,
65$ for the 105 cass,
35$ for the 10sp chain,
110$ for the 10 sp down-tube DA levers ... : o(

Why are you getting a DA derailleur? They're nice, but a 105 will work just the same. It's slightly heavier but this is a cheap build so who cares.

**** my go-to mom&pop LBS, is unable to source a 7800 DA RD. Grrr ...

Gonna try the big-box-type LBS.

I *need* the indexed 10sp. DT levers for the 10 sp RD . The friction "side" of my 300 ex is tooo fidle-y. ( I refuse to buy STI's uless, its the new hiden cable DA ones. )

You know they don't make 7800 anymore right? If you find a 7800 RD it will be left over NOS. Nobody can "source" it.

Good luck with your project. Still have no idea what you are trying to accomplish - because it really seems bass ackwards.

Dude.... Use the bay, online auctions are your friend. Shop around. Better yet, sell it and just get a new setup.

Could you use SRAM shifters with hidden cables with Shimano cassette and RD ? (I'm ignorant on compatibility, just wondering)
