Like this 5 mile wonderchump that kept sprinting around and looking back like we were racing as the wife and I were keeping pace on Saturday. He kept fading once the stiff headwind hit his ass!:roflmao2:...Finally I had to tell him to GTF away from my wife's wheel cause I didn't want some Superstar Staley Sprinter causing an accident. Sure enough he faded!:roflmao2:

If you want to race, race me, not my wife. But let me know about it! And take note that when I roll by you, I'm running a big fat 700X25 Armadillo on the back for added resistance!:p

I doubt that.

You dont aspire to get better at riding than you were two months ago, be it further, faster or longer?

Improving is a nice by-product of riding, but I ride because I enjoy it. If I'm not having fun out there I come back in. But this is not near the point...

I can put an Interval training regime together for you.

I only commuted today, no riders were present. My last road ride, as with all my road rides I was passed and I passed plenty of riders. I don't really pay attention to who passes me or how many, or vice versa. It simply doesn't matter to me, and why should it?

isn't the whole idea of a group ride to ride as a group? I can somehwat understand the group slpitting between abilities (depending on size) but dropping some one on a group ride is very rude IMHO. now a training ride is different if you can't hack it too bad.

I have a slightly different question. on my ride saturday here in so jersey I saw something odd (atleast to me) I saw a group ride headed the other way and it was about 20 riders strong but it had redundents in it too. it look real strange and slightly dangerous to me.

I agree with splitting up a group that is supposed to be riding together (unless its expected and you naturally get in a split of riders going your pace) but I'm more talking about people who get excited about passing random people they don't know when they ride.

I find recumbents somewhat redundant as well :thumb:
We had one of "them" show up for a fast (not "non-drop") group ride. We said "sure you can come" but then were very rude as he made a quick break off the back after 3 miles or so

^^ what he said.

A few times a year I'll ride with a fast group or keep pace with faster TT riders. It's fun for a change.

Most of my rides are to support training for longer distances. Altering my ride to deal with a racer-wanna-be's is a waste of a good ride.

Massive guads churning 400 watts are meant to drope.

Cactuskid 08-18-09 08:11 PM

I only hate getting dropped by a woman I just took out to dinner

Japhy 08-18-09 08:29 PM

Because that's what we do.

DataJunkie 08-18-09 08:32 PM

I just dropped everyone in this thread. Thought y'all might like to know.

Because getting dropped / dropping people is a metaphor for life. You don't want to be a loser in life, do you?

I didn't think so. Now go out and WIN EVERYTHING ON YOUR CASUAL RIDES.

sd_mike 08-18-09 09:34 PM

I'm in a race against myself, so far I seem to be winning. But seriously, unless you're in a race, it doesn't matter. I pass people all the time on the freeway, people pass me all the time on the freeway. Bicycling is the same, though it seems some days I pass most people. Not in a race in the least, just riding my own pace.

illwafer 08-18-09 10:45 PM

i only drop people that are adversarial towards me, knowingly or not. for instance, if i'm faster than you and you keep jumping me at lights or stop signs...it's over. i'll let you know you can't hang with me, even if i end up paying for it later. it's worth it for me to let you know what's up.

redrivergar 08-18-09 11:05 PM

I rode in my first BIG group ride last weekend and I found it a bit unnerving being in the middle of 300 bikes. I dropped a few just to find space to ride. After the initial shock, and getting used to other cyclists in close proximity, it was fun to ride in a group. Who knows, I may be ready to try a paceline someday. Then you guys can yell at me. If you do yank me off, then I shall drope you!!!!

kebeal 08-19-09 04:52 AM

I once got dropped by a old guy on a rascal scooter, but it wasn't really fair since he hung on my wheel the whole way then sprinted to the end. Having me pull the entire way was a #@$* move.

Atol 08-19-09 05:01 AM

It doesn't matter if they don't know you're racing. Winning is winning.

aham23 08-19-09 05:06 AM

rule number one of road cycling; more than 1 cyclist = a race.

rule number two of road cycling; duh.

later.

Breadpudding 08-19-09 05:53 AM

I somehow get dropped when I'm riding alone. :(

so true! Or the guy who's going 60 in the fast lane (way too slow for LA), then decides he wants to go 100 when you pass him.

Nachoman 08-19-09 01:02 PM

Dropping is fun. It means I'm having a good day.
Getting dropped is fun too. It means I'm working harder tomorrow.

freddie 08-19-09 01:11 PM

passing someone on the street is far different then dropping a rider in a group ride. who's to say how many miles the passe has already spun in comparison to the passer? starting a scheduled ride together and having riders fall off unable to keep the pace, that is dropping.

Innes 08-19-09 01:16 PM

I dropped a deuce this morning.

Tunnelrat81 08-19-09 01:19 PM

Because if nobody ever dropped anyone the inevitable result would be a spontaneous Critical Mass ride EVERY DAY!! And honestly, who here want's that? ;)

I was on my way home yesterday, just poking around really because I'm getting over the flu and some "super sprinter" guy blew past me as I was waiting at a traffic light. Right into traffic as it was turning left (I was on a bike path on the left of a road that runs parallel to the bike path). He was pedaling furiously hoping to get ahead. I waited until I had the crossing signal then casually caught up to him and passed him. He did the same thing at the next light and the next. (I kept having to wait at the traffic lights.) He was practically hurling himself into traffic in order to get the jump on me. I started riding his back tire not enough to pass him but to make him work as hard as he could and had a bit of a chuckle to myself.

i come across this sort of thing a lot. for example, if I pass someone, then hit a light, they will ride in front of me at the light then jump the light, then i will pass them eventually, then hit a light... repeat... people are funny.
