Is something wrong with my helmet?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is something wrong with my helmet?

Just bought a new Giro Atmos off of ebay. A few things looked a little fishy to me and I'm curious if other owners could chime in. There are a few areas where the assembly looks a little shoddy (forehead section of the helmet, & where the strap around the back of your head connects to the helmet) My biggest issue is where the circle in the center of the helmet is. It's a big nob that is pressing into the top of my head. Is this normal? Even with the little pad that covers the knob, its very noticeable.

I have a "lesser" model of a Giro, and mine has strips of padding velcroed in the top and around.

Looks like it's missing a lot of padding and some damage or defect has happened to the front.

Hmm, that's what I was thinking. I didn't want to jump the gun or anything. I'll wait for a few more to chime in and then get in contact with the seller. Thanks everyone!

I have the same helmet. After I had it a few weeks, I looked at it closely and there was cracking similar to your second picture (but in a different place). Returned it for a replacement. Mine also has a lot more padding.

I have a Giro Atmos, and it really doesn't have that much padding. I think you're missing one or two missing on the sides towards the back, but yeah, they don't come with too much padding (but are still really comfy!)

That knob thing bugs me too, one reason why I wear Bell helmets, they just fit better on my head.

Yes it was. It was from a seller who apparently sells about 10 of these helmets per day with reasonably good feedback. I've already contacted them about a replacement. No response yet. I really regret buying online sometimes. I'm curious about the padding though. It is the Atmos really supposed to have more padding than what's in the photo? I've seen replacement pad kits and it looks like they're only three pieces, just like what's in the helmet. Thanks for all of the responses everyone! Much appreciated.

It looks like the padding is the same as mine:

There is no padding missing, but it should come with an extra set of pads. Mine has a clear gloss coating over the black foam in a small area, where yours appears to be damaged.

If the center pad bothers you, the size might be a bit large, or perhaps you have it adjusted a little loose. You could always add more padding at the center.

The Atmos I also purchased off scambay also has the same padding. No LBS in the area stocks them so I thought I would take a chance. I am really disappointed in the way it fits and am trying it with some padding from a Limar helmet. It is like they made it uber light by scrapping all the comfort.

yep, I just threw one in the garbage with the same crack up front. I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I sold it. The carbon internal shell might keep you alive in some cases, but that foam is ther efor blunt-force. If it can't do its job, then you clearly have a deficient helmet.

Can't believe someone sold this to you. Bullsh*t. If the seller doesn't respond, contact ebay and consider doing a chargeback through paypal.

I don't find mine comfortable either. I get a big dent on one side of my forehead from it. I keep meaning to replace it.

I'm curious as to the location of the seller...what country?
It's possible it's a cheap chinese knockoff.
I have an Atmos...have had it for 5ish or more years and it is a wonderful helmet. My head shape is perfect for the Giro brand so they all fit me fine. I've been wearing Giro helmets for many years and have never had a complaint.

I'm looking forward to the new Pro-Light to become available...I may actually spring for it "retail" even...

It was this guy. https://myworld.ebay.com/arccycle

Good feedback, that's why I went with them. Anyways, I'll keep you posted on the return/replacement process.

Wait to see if the seller responds. It's entirely possible that if he's selling lots of these, he's not inspecting each and every one before sending them out.

I have two Giro Pneumos, mostly because the Atmos didn't fit. Even within one brand, the helmets fit differently. This is something that I wouldn't buy on-line, at least not the first time with a new model.

Looks normal to me except for the crack. I have a Monza and the internals are similar. I'm sure the seller will replace it for you.
