Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saddle rail, seatpost issue

I have been going through the quest of finding a new saddle, and have finally settled on the Fizik Arione. My issue is separate. The saddle I used before was a Brooks Team Pro, which has about an inch and a half of usable rail. I had to use a setback seatpost - I used a Thomson, which doesn't have all that much setback. The seating area of the saddle is different in relation to the saddle rails between the two saddles, and when I clamp the Fizik into the seatpost, the saddle is jammed all of the way forward and clamped right at the back of the saddle rails. If I had a non-setback post, it would clamp right in the middle of the rail.

My question is: is there any reason not to clamp a saddle down towards the extreme back or front of saddle rails? It looks a little weird, but it doesn't bother me all that much.

The Selle Italia I bought last week has "STOP" marks in front of and behind the measured area in the middle. Based on the warnings in the instructions, I'm guessing they don't want you going past those for safety reasons. Now how long would it take to fatigue the rails from mounting it far forward or far back? No idea.

Mine is definitely clamped past the measurement marks. Has this problem come up before with Fizik saddles?
