Will I lose My Odom. data
Has anyone else changed the tire size when they are using the Cateye Astrale 8 cyclocomputer? I'm changing from a 700x28 to 700x23 and wondered if I'm going to have to reset everything including my overally odometer.

Do a measured roll-out on the ground with a sharpened stick of chalk & see if the two tyres circ. are the same ,if they are close (as I expect they will be) don't worry about it !

No you wo'nt lose your odometer reading in the process. I had mine installed at the LBS when I bought my bike. I noticed my time was not set properly. and on known trails my distance measurement was off a bit from from the computer on my other bike. I got out the manual and set the clock, then just for the heck of it I checked the tire size. Yes it was set for 700x23 my size is 700x25. I reset it and walla both bikes click over the same marked distance within a couple feet of each other.
Get your instruction out and follow them. My odometer reading was untouched and the only changes made were the ones I reset.
I just got my instructions out. They show two different ways to set wheel size:
1:Under Computer Set up: (for first time setup or battery change). "DO NOT USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR WHEEL SIZE CHANGE" You will lose everthing if you hit the the "ALL CLEAR" button on the back of your computer.
2:On the upper right side of you manual, there is a section labeled: DISPLAY FOR MEASUREMENTS. To the right of that there is a section labeled: YOU CAN PROGRAM YOUR TIRE SIZE. Follow these instructions and your in bussiness. Use the tire size chart in the COMPUTER SETUP SECTION for your numbers.

I once lost my data (odometer) part way through the year, so I rigged up a rear wheel with 3 magnets, and sat there spinning the pedals by hand, in front of the TV, on and off, for a few days until the odometer caught up. Yeah, I'm obsessed, I know

My only gripe with the Astrale 8 so far is the non resettable odometer. When I changed the battery in my Trek Fusion I was able to set it back to its original pre-change reading.
I don't know if you call this obsession but I started a Cycling Log book. After every ride I list: distance, ride time and odometer reading. I break my riding up between two bikes and keep tabs on both. If I ever do lose the odometer reading its easy to get back on track looking at the log and distance for that day. Make note of the screw up and reset the odo to 0000, and start tracking again.

Oh - one other nice feature about the Polar is that you can download your rides to your computer.

Hi all,
let's start with Happy New Year.
And than the question: Am I correct I can't reset the ODO on my astrale to what my previous meter had. That s*cks. But I keep log. On a calendar and in a tool called mysporttraining.
So I do know, but would love to set it to where it was, which is what you can do with lots of others.
Any advice? that I can or can't just to make me sleep again
Cheers Micha
