I took a week off the bike...

Yesterday I went for 30 for the first time in a week.

I weighed myself.

I lost 3 lbs this past week.

Discuss.

SpinDr 08-24-09 09:29 AM

You weighed yourself AFTER the ride?

3lbs loss in weight could easily be fluid loss, if you didn't replenish sufficiently.

kindablue 08-24-09 09:33 AM

Could be due to
-waterweight
-time of day
-diet
-alignment of the planets
-if you've taken the browns to the super-bowl before (or not) weighing
-clothing at the time

I don't consider any weight loss considerable unless it is an average of 5 lbs difference over time. FWIW I am 5'11" and 160 lbs.

Hopefully it wasn't muscle mass in your guads.

No.

I weighed 170-173 before last week.

Innes 08-24-09 09:57 AM

Resting metabolic rate.

Well I doubt it was muscle or fat loss in only a week. It's pretty critical to weigh oneself at the same time every day, every week - say every Friday morning after taking your first piss and before breakfast.

Otherwise weighing at random times, a 3lbs increase OR decrease could be explained away very easily.

clausen 08-24-09 10:04 AM

I take a week off I gain 3 pounds.

estabro 08-24-09 10:11 AM

Crystal meth?

telebianchi 08-24-09 10:13 AM

I took a week off and then sneezed after which I weighed three pounds less. Must have been a three pound sneeze.

Not enough data to support any worthwhile conclusions.

cshell 08-24-09 10:30 AM

i could lose 3lbs after exiting the bathroom.

Let me make myself clear.

I lost 1.3 lbs due to the ride.

167.2 after the ride, 168.5 before.

I'm still 3lbs short of the 169.5-172.5 i usually find myself hovering around.

Are my guads shrinking? I sure hope not. You can't crush souls with shrunken guads.

I just got back from a cycling vacation. I am taking a few days off until I stop being sore. Sad to say I found some great restaurants and gained a pound.

Creakyknees 08-24-09 10:44 AM

more important than your weight, is how you felt (numbers if you have a p-meter) after the break...

kamalster 08-24-09 10:51 AM

The body can fluctuate a couple of pounds on a daily basis, with most of the difference being water weight. Don't worry about a single weigh-in - it's the long-term trend that matters.

And FYI, it's quad, not guad. Unless guad is some slang that I'm not familiar with?

I knew there was a reason to stay away from "used" shorts and bibs!!

Normal body weight fluctuates 3-5 lbs. Per day. So, no biggie.

Yes, and the long-term trend this week is that i'm 3lbs lighter.

And its guad, unless you're in the real world, which we're not.

You guys don't listen.

This isn't 3lbs, this is roughly 5-6 lbs lighter. Accounting for my normal fluctuations, i appear to be about 3lbs lighter.

good one. haven't heard that before.

mrbUSA 08-24-09 11:03 AM

I took two weeks off, not by choice but because of family stuff. First week in, I gained 2 pounds and felt like a fat, fatty fat. Second week, despair. Hit the bike this past Saturday and feeling much better. I think it's a combo of the actual return to working out as well as the psych that accompany's.

168.5 as your pre-ride weight is only 1 lb below the bottom end of your "normal" range, so I don't see where you're getting 5-6 lbs lighter...

Ah. I'm so uncool. :o

rongarcia 08-24-09 11:55 AM

I have not ridden for the past week but not by choice, my bike is in the shop getting the entire chain drive replaced. I am hoping to get it back this afternoon. I have been feeling a lot of anxiety and not unlike Jabba the Hut.

Because I know my body.

umd 08-24-09 12:06 PM

Timmy, I know what you mean. I actually lost weight when I didn't didn't do any exercise for about 2 weeks after I broke my collarbone. I gained a tiny bit of weight at first but once my appetite adjusted I lost weight. Riding hard and training and racing does not tend to work towards weight loss, if you are not overweight to begin with...
