Lowest prices on tubular tires

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lowest prices on tubular tires

Hi,

Where can you obtain high quality tubular tires at lowest prices with reliable safe mail order or internet transaction? Thanks

Any differences between conti 4000 and Vittoria evo corsa?

Width choices are 21 and 23. Is 23 a better choice for road riding?

Wiggle, PBK, Ribble and Chain Reaction are a few shops to chose from. As for which one is the cheapest you will need to crunch the numbers, the cheaper ones usually have a higher freight cost while the dearer ones have cheaper or zero freight costs. I have been using Wiggle mostly of late because their freight is free (if you spend over ~$100) and they bill you directly in your currency so you won't have currency exchange rate fees from your bank or CC provider.

I use the Vittoria Evo Corsa CX 28 x 21 and use 700 x 23 GP4000 on my Mavic clincher training wheels.

Conti 4000 is an awesome tubular. Great grip in both dry and wet, and excellent durability. I train daily on them. The conti is a 22mm tire.

I haven't ridden the evo corsa, but I hear that while it is an excellent race day tire it is not very durable.

Tire width will also depend on your wheels. I'd don't think I'd go smaller than 22mm on Zipps, Heds, or Williams.

Yellow Jersey still offers "3 for $50" tubulars.

I hope that by cheap you didn't mean low to mid quality. Low to mid quality tubulars tend to be much worse than equal quality level clinchers with the added bonuses of their inherent difficulties.

I ride tubulars exclusively. I have been buying them from PBK for the past 2+ years, but I do order a few at one time to avoid ordering frequently or not having a tire when I need it.

Personally, I love the Veloflex Carbons. They are awesome. They don't last as long as the Continental tires, but they are so soft, supple, and nice that it is hard to give them up. Vittorias are right up there as well. Continentals tend to be a very rough ride when compared to other "high end" tubulars, but they do last longer. Puncture resistance I have found to be about the same among them all.

Personally, I will be ordering some Vittoria Pave to try for my weekday rides and leave the other Vittorias and the Veloflex for my weekend long ride bike.

Nope,
I am interested in Conti 4000's, Vittoria CX evo, or other high end tubulars. An additional question. So far I have only flatted one tubular (a tufo with sealant). Well the sealant did allow me to limp home but at greatly reduced pressure. I have seen the videos of mtn bike tires (probably 30-40psi) being spiked and they hold air. So, question, is does Stans, Vittoria, or tufo sealant actually stop the leak of a 110 psi tubular. In my case the damage may or may not have been severe but it could not have been ridden in a normal way. I would like to hear of other experiences with sealants and tubular tires. Thanks curt

Also thanks for the contacts on where to obtain. Lowest price I have seen on conti 4000 tubular at this point is $79 at Excel.

PBK has them for about $71 with free shipping.

It's sad when you think that they were going for $48-$50 earlier this year...
