wheel stands
yes, that was me. the guy who did wheel stands at every red light in my morning and afternoon commute in Chicago from Lawrence and Pulaski to 63rd and Stewart (Englewood high School)that is from the North side to the South side of Chicago- a one way trip of 17.5 miles. If you don't think the public is watching just fall once and hear gales of laughter. I had seen the track stand performed in matched sprints at Northbrook track on thursday nites and was very impressed, but i was told you can only do it on a fixed gear track bike , oh yeah? watch me, and i learned that u can do it on a road bike, ok, listen very carefully, i am going to reveal my secret of how to do it. Every road is higher in the middle so that it will drain the rain water into the gutter , you use this "hill' to balance you and your bike. aim your front wheel at a 45 degree angle up the hill and put your left pedal at the 9 o'clock position, now you apply just enough pressure to keep from rolling backwards, you actually jockey a little back and forth. do it until u get the hang of it, on the track the rider balances by using the fixed gear against the banking of the track, there now i can die knowing some one will carry on my tradition of freaking people out at stop lights, Allen the incredible Oh, btw u need a fairly smooth road to do this- if the ground is bumpy its much harder. technically the law says this isnt a stop that you have to put both feeet on the ground to comply with the law, but i was too lazy to keep reacquiring the toe clips so i stood there until the light turned green with my both feet in the toe clips!

There is nothing new or secret about doing track stand on non-fixed-gear bikes. Search "track stand" on youtube and you'll come across several videos where guys are doing track stand without a fixie. I've seen a couple of people here in Ottawa who do track stand at red light.

is this one of those "look how cool i am" threads? |
You need to learn how to create small / shorter paragraphs.
That is one huge block of writing there. Hard on the eyes to follow. |
No, this has to be a silly joke thread. Or I'm hoping it is. And I track stand on my road bike all the time. I never figured it was that much of an awesome trick.

what's that mean? |
wheel stand
no, i just assumed you would guess that it was all tongue in cheek.i have seen lots of people do wheel stands. on road bikes too, i also rode fixed gear on the streets after Oscar Wastyn told me the story of fixed gear Bronson.
|
i have decided that if you want to put my name on a black candle it's OK...Crash716 is not my real name anyway...and i have "faith" that my God will protect me from the tom foolery of black candles and fake names.
|
Haha he said tom foolery.

Whats the point of doing a track stand like that in a match sprint race.
|
I didn't read your block of gibberish, can I have a black candle?
If you're wondering, yes, "TheSkier" is my last name. |

i wrote the wheel stand post about my early cycling days, now looking back i wonder who looks more foolish. Is it me the gushing bike rider or the superior attitude critic? I think some people decided that the critic was just a sour grapes person. The Sarcasm back fired. I am just an old racer reminiscing. Flame much?

I have posted stuff on many forums and never got this kind of vitriol.

Well then you probably shouldn't resurrect 2 year old threads where you threaten people with voodoo.
