Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Can someone help tell me more about this bike?

I'm looking for a bike to ride with the family. 90% road and asphalt, but occasional trails.

I don't want to take my new Specialized Allez road bike on the trails. So I'm looking for an expensive alternative for the Sunday family outings.

I've found this bike on Craigslist.

I'm trying to figure out what year the bike is, and possibly what size. The seller is unsure, and before driving 1.5 hours to see it, It'd help to get you guys' expert eyes on the bike. And tell me if this looks like a good deal or not.

The seller said he'd go down to $170.00. Is this a good buy? THANK YOU in advance!

Here is the info for craigslist - -

I have a specialized Hard Rock sport mountain bike in excellent condition. It has hutchinson/tech+/gold silicium technology-PYTHON-france tires new, and one new never leak intertube. It also has an aftermarket velo Plush gel seat as the factory one was uncomfortable, and scott handle bar grips. It has xcm gears that shift great! The bike rides great with no problems at all. It is very light in weight and is a great bike for off road or a great commuter bicycle. It has easy adj/off seat tires ect. I am asking 200 OBO as this bike retails for over 400 new.

Yes. That narrowed it down to 31 bikes.

I know there are many experts here on BF that would be able to narrow it down further by one simple picture.

Specialized Hard Rock is a low-end mountain bike. They have been making these for years and value depends a lot on age. $170 sounds kind of high unless the bike is pretty new and in great shape.
