Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It's too bad you can't get a defy frameset in aluminum. They are such sweet comfortable bikes. i'm afraid to even change from this bike to something 'nicer' because this bike just works so well for me. What's your budget? you could buy a defy3 fully built and then sell the components. Just a thought...

You aren't going to find a better compact alu frameset for 250 stinking dollars and free shipping. I bought one a few years back as a temporary frame and liked it so much, I'm still using it.
Correction!! This frame/fork is now $199! Just got my Performance flyer today in the mail. Leaves plenty of money for nice wheels and components. Only the stuff you want, not what comes with the bike.

I want to shamelessly throw my hat into the ring...

Nobody tries as hard, or is as committed to make compact aluminum road race frames than I am(I'm the owner/designer here at Spooky).
I built our factory out of pocket change, irrational need to build bikes for my friends to race and industry goodwill.
I live in an unheated basement without hot water to further my commitment to making the best race bikes in the world.
I designed our tubesets using 15 years of aluminum frame building and design experience... Aluminum is all I care about. We build steel bikes because there is demand, and have almost no interest in pursuing carbon.
Even at the light weight of our frames, out of the ~120 we've sent out into the world we haven't had a single failure, even under pro-level racing conditions. If/When we have some warranty issues, things will be more than taken care of, for a very reasonable length of time.

When you call or Email Spooky, you are talking to the person who designed your frame, or the person who welded it. There are 2 of us here full time, and about 8 volunteers and interns.

I am hungry. And I want to sell you a frame.

Feed me.

I have a 2007 Soloist Team (same as the S1). Cervelo doesn't offer the (totally awesome) anodized finish on it anymore, but the frame itself has been great in the year I've owned it.

I guess I don't see what the problem with the seatpost is, but I'd recommend the S1 wholeheartedly to anyone who isn't a totally green beginner cyclist.

Hey mickey, good to see you over here!

I've email with mickey various times, and he's good people. He makes a killer racing bike, and I hope to have one added to my stable in the tolerably near future.

I'll vouch for the 2004 Avanti Vivace pro series. I have a compact geometry small frame (full aluminium, no carbon) and it's handling is excellent, and ride is as can be expected for a very stiff aluminium frame. Great for crits (bb 10mm higher then conventianal, and 170mm cranks-pedal through turns with ease), not too weighty (bike with accessories sans wheels around 6.5kg, Tiagra gruppo). a weight weenie could get it down to a total weight of 7.5-8kg with the cash. I get no discernible flex, however I find the octalink cranks flexy, so if after something as stiff as possible, invest in some Hollowtech 2 Tiagra or 105 cranks/chainrings.

Am I going to be shot for suggesting Avanti?

As a recent owner of a Spooky Skeletor, I'd vouch for them. Very stiff, very fast, killer anodized finish (similar to a Felt FK2).

I just bought the nashbar aluc with carbon seat stays and it is a compact havent road it yet but I got a reynolds UL fork for it and Im totally stoked about riding it. I like the idea of carbon seat stays, but I agree that full carbon is not for me. Oh and it was unbelievably cheap. Its is actually just a frame to build a bike around then hopefully switch out to something super duper bad ass next year.

would you be so kind as to throw up pics in the spooky thread from a few weeks ago, or in any other thread you find appropriate? It is raining out and I want something to look at while I start "trainer time" for this winter.
