Randochap's misadventure

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hi Randochap,

Like others, I missed your original post. Thanks for providing the detail and the updates on your recovery. I wish you all the best. The pictures of the bike are sobering.

All the best --

Randochap, I was moving when this thread was started, so I'm viewing it for the first time tonight. All I have to say is damn, that was tough to read. And yes, I'm quite aware it was exponentially more difficult to be living it! You outlook is admirable; many people would be wallowing in much more pity or anger. I wish you a complete recovery as soon as possible!

Thanks again everyone; your good wishes really help my frame of mind.

At the same time I love listening to their stories. Weird mix of feelings.

The weather is stable and perfectly gorgeous. It's torture to be confined like this. Just trying to be in the moment at the same time as keeping the "prize" of riding again in focus.

In answer to the bike question. I plan to use the bike settlement to pretty much replace what was destroyed -- a 650b tourer. I loved that bike for relaxed riding, especially on hardpack trails and rough surfaces. It will also be the perfect machine to hobble back into riding -- comfy and forgiving.

Thing is the frame is no longer in production, so maybe go for custom build, incl. constructur racks!

Later, I'll pull out my Sportivo and Ciclo maybe come autumn 2010.

This is how the poor Bleriot looks now:
Bob Jackson....you can get a good lugged steelie made by them however you'd like it

Sounds like you're healing well and, while never as fast as one would like, making progress toward days back in the saddle. Take your time... the bikes will be there once your body is healed.

Keeping your spirits high will get you back on the bike sooner then later.

Cheers.

There's a 61cm Bleriot frame hanging in my LBS (in Seattle) if you're interested.

This unbelievable...(and gave me reason to pause and think about the risks), and i raise a toast to your determination and sunny disposition. I wish you speedy recovery and longer distances, post-recovery. Really hope the driver gets penalized wiht crushing fines, in the least.
