Roadies, what do you wear when you're just tooling around town on a bike?
Or do you not just tool around?
Anyway, I tend to wear cotton Old Navy cargo shorts and Andiamo liners. Thing is, those liners tend to droop down and sag unlike my road kit/bibs. Do you wear road shorts/bibs under your street clothes or have you found something better than liner underwear? |
bibs and t shirt
|
I always were the same thing when I ride--shorts, jersey, cycle shoes and a helmet. If it is cold, I may also wear arm and leg warmers, wool socks and a jacket.
|
regular clothes
|
Nothing.
|
Any shorts and a t-shirt. Pretty much I reserve my poser costumes for longer weekend rides.
I was very temped to get some puma manpris last week but my sexual insecurities got the best of me. |
Flip flops and a...hang on..
|
I wear mtb shorts if I'm doing something like going in the grocery store. However, they are definitely not nearly as comfortable as my bibs, so if I'm just sightseeing with the possibility of grabbing coffee, I wear my roadie kit.
|
When I am "JRA" I don'tuse a road bike, I use my tourer. I can wear regular shorts and t-shirt for those little short runs thanks to a trusty Brooks B-17. .
|
Whatever combination of shorts and shirt I'm wearing. No liner. No cycling shoes.
|
I don't tool around on my geared road bike. I pick my fixed gear or my mountain bike and whatever I am wearing that day.

I don't just tool around.....I don't own anything but a roadie and it's not made for tooling around....I have a scooter for that
|
I was out riding yesterday and got passed by this guy wearing only his shorts ...and a lot of back hair...I guess it's what he doesn't wear when he tools around :)
|
When I tool, I ride my Raleigh 3 spd, so I wear anything I want.
|
Cutoff shorts, t shirt , vans and a cycling cap. If I'm just tooling around I'm usually not riding more then a few miles so I eschew cycling undies.
|
I tool around on the motorcycle with usually a jacket (w/armor), helmet, boots, gloves and either jeans or armored pants. The >$3K road bike is not for tooling around because:
1) no lock, feel weary leaving anywhere out of my sight 2) clipless pedals 3) uncomfortable without bibs |
Yeah, clipless pedals make the main road bike impractical to tool around on . . . instead I'll use the platform pedal road bike.
I'll wear shorts, jeans, sweats, whatever, but I will usually still wear a bike jersey . . . we poseurs must maintain at least some style while on the bike. ;) |
I have two pairs of bike shorts that have an outer liner to make them look like regular athletic shorts. I'll toss on one of those and a t-shirt.
As for bike choice, depends where I'm going. If I have to lock up the bike for any real amount of time, I hop on the hybrid. If it's a longer ride or just short lock-ups, I use the road bike. My pedals are 1/2 platform and 1/2 clipless, which is very convenient for the occasional rides where I can't bring bike shoes. |
I usually tool around in a skinsuit (with HRM under), and some shoe covers for good measure.
Sometimes ill use the aero helmet but I think that it's a bit excessive |
uh, normal clothes and my track bike.
the only locking up my road bike sees is inside my apartment at night. |
A monkey suit.

Whatever I happen to be wearing. All my road bikes have Ultegra pedals, which are wide enough to work as platforms for short casual rides.
|
I wear my cycling shorts under regular shorts & a comfortable not too loose shirt.
