Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

1) How did you do those decals?

2) How does that frame ride? I've seen those on eBay before and I can't decide whether it's a great deal or a joke.

Ok, so it's not Orange County Chooper customized, but it's custom in the fact that it's unique and altered to fit my needs better. Please let's not argue about the definition of what's custom and what's not.

Should I rename the heading Unique and then we argue about what's unique about the bike because it still has the same parts of a normal bike?

Let's just leave it as custom , come on ppl...it's unique/custom/modified, whatever you want to call it. It is what ist is...a LiveSTRONG themed bike that's not a true TREK MADONE.

Nice bike.

If Lance sees you out on the road with that bike he's gonna drop the hammer on your arse.

Can we just be happy for a guy who's totally happy about a bike he just built up? I swear....the attitude on the Road Cycling side of the forum is more immature than a two year old toddler.

It IS custom. Read the definition. And it's cool. Nice job.

How did you make the decals? I want to make CUSTOM decals for my bike.

Better than the bike I'm riding. Oh... my bike is custom too just not as nice as yours, my wife drove into the garage and ripped it off the roof leaving a nice crimped downtube. I put stickers over the dents..LOL. I prefer the LiveStrong clone to my bike any day. Nice job on details and building it within your budget.

So how does it ride?

I say great job. Just another way to make people aware of the foundation who may not be. At some point, everyone will be dealing with cancer in one way or another. It took my Mother and has terrorized other family members and I hate it.

Once again, I say kudos to you, tastefully done. Did I hear you say on the video around 1500.00?

Nice build. If you don't mind me asking...how much did the frame cost? It is from ebay, correct?

There's a difference between profiting off of their brand trademark that is making those sales, than this gentleman who wanted to promote the livestrong foundation but couldn't afford to do so by purchasing a $10,000 road bike.

Great build, looks awesome, I too am curious how the frame rides, give it a review when you can!

I worked with a few people from www.signsbytomorrow.com they're a franchised sign shop. I bought the cast vinyl cut lettering which is superior to the less than durable calendar vinyl.

It looks painted on the vinyl letting is so thin but it adheres really well.

thanks for all the positive responses...I have a shoe string budget and it's not like I'm hiding it from the world. Bottom line like the video shows; I can't afford a $10000+ 6.9 Madone or a $5500 5.9 madone. Just to get a madone with the livestrong theme costs $1600 extra. Yes I know that the extra cost goes to the foundation, but I found something better to do with the money I did have to support LiveSTRONG.

Trust me, I'm sure I'll be able to make the money I used to build the bike stretch farther than what I would have paid to have a madone. Everyone who's seen it so far think it's AWESOME!...it give me a chance to tell them why I chose it and tell them to visit the site and make a donation. I'm going to tell people, if you like the bike great, please make sure to donate $25-$50 at LiveSTRONG.com to support it.

I've only ridden it up and down my street in my subdivision. The 4 guys I ride with are already wondering what kind of attention I'm going to get tomorrow at the group ride.

So far I've only had to adjust the rear derailleur a little, it shifted rough, but it rides stiff right now. We'll see tomorrow on the 3 hour ride how it goes.

I'll update you all when I get the first ride in. Again the ride of the bike is only my opinion.

My Budget was $1500.

Total for everything is as follows:

$375 Included 100% Carbon everything; Carbon Frame, Carbon Fork w/Carbon steer tube, Carbon Wing Handlebar, carbon seat tube, 2 carbon cages. I sold the carbon cages for $50 and decided not to use the carbon handlebar or the seat tube. The full carbon seat tube and wing handlebar are very much for sale. Original cost with shipping was $425 on ebay, I made the seller a direct offer and they accepted - the $50 I recouped from the carbon cages has me at $375

$25 Control Tech Handlebar shollow from Cannondale Six13 Craigslist - My favorite bar BTW. -new take off
$0 Front Ultegra Derailleur had it forever - used
$28 Rear Ultegra RD-65000 9 speed (works fine with 10 speed) Craigslist - used
$250 2009 Nuevation M28SL wheelset - new
$30 FSA 150 90mm stem -new
$30 FSA Campy Compatible Headset - new
$18 Bontrager Yellow Bar Tape - new
$50 Bontrager Race Lite 31.8mm Seat tube (ebay) - new
$38 CST Ultraspeed Tireset - New
$25 Forte Saddle (Fizik Arione Clone) - New
$200 Dura Ace 7801 Shifters Craigslist - New
$20 Dura Ace 7800 Chain Craigslist - New
$100 Dura Ace BR-7800 Brakeset Craigslist- New
$60 for Custom Cast Vinyl Stickers from www.signsbytomorrow.com
$130 SRAM Rival Standard Crankset 172.5 with 30% off coupon from Nashbar.com - New

So unless I've forgotten anything else it's at $1420. Doesn't count saddle bag, tubes, etc. I could have skimped alot more but for what I have in terms of components I can't find anything close to what I have in the bike shop for less than $2700.

If anyone from knows how to forward this to Lance or someone at TREK I'd be curious what they would say. I really would. I'd be the first to admit that if TREK offered me a 5.9 Madone I'd trade what I have for one but until that day happens I'm sporting this thing with pride.

Like someone said, show it off for a week and then ride it like you stole it...tomorrow is that day...I'm riding like I stole it.

Wow you bought that crappy 300 dollar ebay carbon frame and you loaded it up with some yellow livestrong stickers on it. You do know that anything that is Livestrong makes a donation to the Livestrong foundation, seeing as you just slapped a bunch of "custom" livestrong not even legitimate livestrong crap on it. Tell me how much money was donated to the livestrong foundation. You would have been doing more good at just buying a bracelet all you did was put stickers on it. That is not what livestrong is about you are like trying to get famous off of Livestrong and being a cheapskate. Your an ******* and that bike is a big pile of ****.

You also get away with reppin livestrong while making absolutely no donation. My livestrong hat made more of a donation than you did. Sir you are a poser.

Whats next you planning on buying a yellow jersey and taking a black magic marker and writing livestrong on it. Anything to save a few bucks and keep from donating right? Your not lance and everyone in the world knows about livestrong. Your not spreading the message your just trying to fool people into thinking that your riding a madone from a distance, well your not fooling anyone on here. And also I think lance would be ashamed, and the fact that you suggested that they would give you a madone just screams you did this to get some sort of fame out of this and your not in it for the cancer. Well ill tell you what ******* I wasnt going to bring this up but I had melanoma from riding my bike when I was in high school and you offended me because this is not about livestrong its about you.
