Sore Throat day after rides... from mouth breathing, or overreaching?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sore Throat day after rides... from mouth breathing, or overreaching?

To start, I have a crooked nose (deviated septum) which very much impedes my airflow through my nose when exercising. So, when out cycling, I breath through my mouth almost 100% of the time.

I am getting mild sore throats the day after rides, and am curious if anyone else is a mouth-breather when they ride, and if you think the throat irritation is from that, or if it's part of my immune system being impaired after all the exertion.

I also have a deviated septum and cannot breath in my left nostril hardly at all. As long as I hydrate I'm usually OK but in colder or very hot weather this is not always the ssame case. Cyclists are very susceptible to colds. If it persists you may consider a septoplasty.

I had the same problem after I first started putting in a lot of miles. It went away after a couple of months. I also eliminated sweet drinks during rides and switched to water which seemed to help.
