Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When To Buy Groupset

I'm presently in the market for a new groupset. After weeks of research and thought I've pretty much settled on Chorus (although if I can do it I wouldn't mind getting record cranks).

The MSRP on an 8 piece group is $2095 in the US. Current prices are little more than half that at retailers that actually sell much campy.

I'm wondering if I should jump and buy now, or wait until Jan/Feb as I'd originally planned and risk a possible price increase.

Financially it's better to wait until Jan (I'm a big fan of save, then buy). But I don't want to throw $200 away by waiting to buy when fall prices were good. There's nothing pushing the purchase other than desire. I'm running 105 9spd and it still works fine (Yes, I'm buying new wheels too, but I'm not worried about the cost of wheels).

So, here's the main question: Is campy cheaper in the fall? Or is campy just always far cheaper than MSRP? If these prices stay this good, and I wait, I'll probably buy more record components and fewer chorus components (specifically, cranks, shifters, rear derailleur).

Thanks in advance for any advice!

If we could predict the markets we'd be rich and not worrying about when the cheapest time to buy something would be. Your guess is as good as ours. My guess is that consumer spending isn't going to jump much before then so the prices should remain low.

no, that's mostly only complete bikes and other bulky space eating items.

All I see is Shimano groupsets at Wiggle... did they change their website/policys about selling Campy online to the USA?

All I ever get is this

Ive tried clearing my cache, signing in as a non-USA customer, and tried using multiple web browsers. All I can find on Wiggle are Shimano groupsets :/ Can anyone else chime in? Ive bought stuff from Wiggle before, but now Im just confused.

Okay, well I think I'll bide my time. Thanks for all the info.

That wiggle price is good by the way. About the same as Lick.

I don't seem to have a problem...

they don't sell it as a groupset, but you can order all the parts at once...
