Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

got dropped on a date... *facepalm*

So totally met a girl that is into cycling. She rides a Giant TCR 1 with Ultegra/dura ace comp. She is training for a Triathlon. I have only been cycling for about month and a half, about once a weekend for now. Needless to stay, we started out at a leisurely pace, about 12-14mph. Then she picked up the pace and dropped me, then waited for me, then dropped me two more times on the ride. I was pretty embarrassed. Any advice besides eat sleep and ride?

If she waited for you that's good.

See if she's willing to train with you.

6 weeks isn't long to build a cycling base. It takes time, ride more. Having said that cycling is largely psychological. When I first started riding 5Mi used to be a long ride for me and really suck. Now I can easily complete 40Mi rides in any physical condition(fitness wise)

Dude, you're lucky to find a girl who rides.

Plus, like Walter said, if she waited for you, it means she wanted a second date. Well done sir.

Oh, and to get faster, ride your bike a lot.

I've been doing the same thing lately, minus the getting dropped part. Just keep riding, it's nice to have riding company of the opposite sex. One girl I rode with though did drop the **** out of me, I wasn't embarrassed, if anything I found it attractive.

Just don't sprint them for town lines, unless they attack first. Then it's game on.

Did she know you were knew to riding? If so, I can't imagine she expected you to compete with her. Try to ride with her more and in a year or so you'll be able to compete with her

I was pacing a climb, didn't know her and she was on my wheel, I was going hard and didn't make much of it. She attacked on me at the last mile of the climb blew me to pieces. Got her digits at the top lol.

x2 plus I bet she has a decent body. LOL
just ride more than just the weekends. I've was riding for a few months when my friend decided to try the sport out. I let him borrow one of my bikes and we met up for a ride after he had the bike for about a wk. He thought he could just get on and ride like LA. I dropped him a few times, wasn't really trying just kept my pace of around 18-20mph. Btw we have pretty much the same bodies. He said getting dropped really pissed him off. That lit a fire inside of him and gave him motivation and now he is close to me in fitness.

just increase your riding, and if you fall in love with cycling you'll get better quickly.

haha...Don't worry about it...my girlfriend drops me half the time, she keeps exceptionally consistent cadences and generally owns me on the climbs....but I'm fine drafting her....

I noticed that the woman next to me on the ride yesterday had a SRM and I was tempted to ask what her FTP was... but I was afraid of the answer.

Damn i'd be embarrassed too. But you've only ridden for 1 month and change. She probably trained for years.

I'm guessing by the bike and wheels that she didn't pay full retail for that kit
