Trek 1.2 or Specialized Allez Sport
Approx. $1000CAD to spend to get a new, modern road bike.
I am currently eyeing two bikes, the 2010 Trek 1.2 has the MSRP of $1029CAD, while the 2010 Specialized Allez Sport compact has the MSRP of $850US ($920CAD).
Today I went to my lbs to check their price, they told me they got the price on both of them but are 2009 price tag. Anyhow, the price tag on the 09' Trek 1.2 is $899CAD and Spec. Allez Sport is $1470CAD!! That shocked me so much because it's a big difference than the MSRP listed on the website! They also mentioned the 2010 price should be very similar to the 09' price.
Do you think those price I got are making sense? Also what you think about those two bikes?
Thanks

In my opinion it is silly to go with retail. In the Toronto Craigslist, you will find maaaaaaaany "used once" $2000 bikes, selling for $1000. I nearly got ahold of a late 90's Colnago Master, which is way better to have than a new Trek or Specialized. Anyways I managed to snag a 1985 Vitus with Campy Record for about $400, it has made me very happy and has great style. Check eBay too.

At all of my LBS 10% off Specialized MSRP is standard. I was able to get an additional 10% off on a 2010 Tarmac. If I understand you correctly they are asking over MSRP, which is crazy.

What the heck!? I am pretty sure you're from the states. It's a total different story here in Canada as I see all the bike shop listing like 10% MORE than the MSRP! Ridiculous

Specialized dropped all the names down a notch for 2010, so the Sport is the base model. I know because I have one

I think they're both nice bikes. They may also both be slightly overpriced compared to other brands because they're from big-name companies. But they're still nice bikes.
Consider their different components. Are they different and do you have a strong preference? Consider how comfortable you feel on them and how cool you think they are. It's important to be comfortable and I think it's nice to be on a cool bike. Ride them both. Do you like the way one handles over the other? Lastly, there's price. That's the biggest factor for me with my budget. Does the more expensive bike have enough positive factors to justify the extra expense? Like I said, I think they're both good-quality bikes.

All else being equal, avoid Sora. It is easy to outgrow (stupid thumb shifters). 4 days riding my new BMC with Rival, and it is heaven-sent to be able to change gears both ways while in the drops.
