just purchased a 2008 caad 9 for 1275, is that a bargain

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think it is a bargain.

Here is my justification. I have an 04 caad 5 that i bought from a guy who only put 700 miles on it 5 months ago. I have ridden it and am impressed with the frame fit and feel. I was going to upgrade the groupo on it but then ran across this bike. To me the frame is solid. This guy has put solid components on a bike that normally you would not see online..ie I understand it is a 1200-1600 dollar bike new. If you are going to buy that kind of a bike you dont upgrade it with the semi-premium components. You buy the 5k and up bikes that have that equipment standard on it. So I get the frame I want with the components I would have had to buy individually for my caad 5.....well the scoop is below

400 total miles on the bike....partial listing info below

2008 R5 caad 9
He has upgraded nearly everything (he even added Token alloy pulleys with ceramic bearings to the Dura Ace rear derailler!!). This bike really doesnt show much wear at all. Check out the specs:

Cannondale R5 Frame - 56cm

Reynolds Ouzo Pro Carbon Fork

Ritchey WCS "Wet Finish" black 90mm stem

Ritchey WCS handlebars

Tioga Spider saddle w/carbon seatpost

Dura Ace brake calipers, cassette, crankset, front and rear derailler

White Jagwire cables

VeloMax Wheels (very light)

105 Shifter levers

Jagwire brake pads and housing

Ceramic Bottom Bracket

Schwalbe Ultremo 700x23 tires w/ tons of life

thanks!

If you like the bike, it was worth it.

Typically I don't ask after I've paid for something if I got a good deal. But that's just me.

Nice bike.

Only thing I'll say is the new CAAD9 bike with BB30 is about $300 more.

you did well, solid frame and components that will last, as long as it was within your budget, good move.

what i dont understand is when people post total bike mileage... how do you know? its not like bikes have a non-disableable odometer...

i also dont know who would throw a bunch of [upgrades] DA parts at a very generic alu frame and then sell it after having ridden only 400 miles, doesnt make much sense??

all in all though, looks like you wound up with a nice bike you can have for a while...

I agree, I did the research, I made the deal and was pretty sure it was solid but hey, I field questions all the time from people who buy cars and ask me if it was a good deal or not. And most people that buy a car ask others their opinions on the car they bought,.....so there, I did it with my bike!

what i dont understand is when people post total bike mileage... how do you know? its not like bikes have a non-disableable odometer...
Again I agree. Apparently this bike will not have a single ding, scratch, dent, or cosmetic mark. The guy said under 500 miles and put the number around 400 miles but definetly not over 500 miles. The guy has a 100% feedback with 10's in every star category and 439 results.

i also dont know who would throw a bunch of [upgrades] DA parts at a very generic alu frame and then sell it after having ridden only 400 miles, doesnt make much sense??
Again I agree and didn't even ask why he is selling it. You dont usually see this bike online with all that equipment on that type of a frame. But over the last few months I was debating doing the same thing to my 04 caad5. I finally decided I would just buy a new bike and be done with it. I actually was looking at some Cervelo's, Pinarello's, and that night almost pulled the trigger on a Felt F1, that went for 6500 bucks. The reason I bought the Caad9 was because I am extremely happy with the comfort of the cannondale frame. I plan to ride this for a year or two and then totally switch gears and buy a new Serotta. I could afford much more than what I bought. But this will hold me over a few years while I fine tune the engine and become more efficient on a bike. I like to buy nice things. I feel I have a nice frame with above average components and that after a few years I can retire. At this point I don't feel like I have earned a serotta or a Felt F1.

Sounds like a good deal to me, as long as you like the bike. If you want to compare that bike to something of set price, the 2010 version is more expensive for lower-end components. It's hard to compare used bikes to used bikes because the market varies so much.

It's a good bike. My real point was that at that price you are into new bikes with full warranty, etc...and the CAAD9 5 is almost the same price, 105, etc..although you have the new bike beat with DA brakes. But I didn't compare every single spec. I don't think I saw your wheels on your post, and the ones on the CAAD9 5 are Shimano RS10 which are not real good...but they are not going to put a thousand dollar wheelset on a $1,300 bike.

For what you want it for, it's fine.

Have fun.

>almost pulled the trigger on a Felt F1, that went for 6500 bucks.<

Then you might have gotten a lousy deal: you could have afforded such a nicer bike that you want but, for apparently psychological reasons, is a bike you haven't "earned."

But, I suspect, they don't really want to know. I suspect they want confirmation that they did okay. Kinda like when the wife says, "Does this dress make my butt look fat?" In that case, she likely does not want to hear, "No, it is you hippopotamus butt that makes your butt look fat."

Yeah, until cycling becomes my only obsession i dont feel like spending the money on a top tiered bike. I feel i got a mid tiered frame with top tiered components. Which is easier than finding a top tiered frame with mid level components.

You can spend more on an aluminum frame, but are there any that are actually better than a CAAD9? That is arguably the best aluminum frame out there.

Agree. The ride quality is pretty special, IMO. One of the most compliant Al frames I've ridden, but still stiff in the BB and great geo.
