Why I Ride My Bike
I am 48 years old and have been riding now for about 7 months. I ride 13 miles before work in the mornings and do a longer ride on Saturday about twice a month. My longest ride has been 55 miles. In the seven months I've been riding, cycling has removed 30 pounds from my body and replaced my blood pressure and cholesterol medicines. But that's not why I ride my bike. I ride my bike because I enjoy it. It's the first form of exercise I actually enjoy. I've always enjoyed the benefits of exercise. Now I enjoy the exercise. Thank God for cycling.

Good the hear! Keep it up.
The foremost reason I ride is because I enjoy it. I wake up each morning thinking about my ride and it always puts me in a better mood. Glad to read that cycling is having such positive effects on your health!
I hope I'm still riding at 48.

Couldn't agree more!
45 here, lost 100 pounds (not all due to the bike, I, ugh, ran too)...never been in better shape, even better than high school. Do 100-200 miles per week, 2037 miles in the last three months (new computer on 6/4/09
). Finally seem to have the fit worked out, life is good!
We old farts have a little life left in us eh?

stole your bike
Well done! I lost 70lbs through riding and also continue to stick with it because I really enjoy it, I used to love riding all over the city discovering new areas while improving my fitness. Once I started venturing outside of the city I got a road bike and started logging in more miles.

Well riding because you like to is the second best reason to ride next to because you love to. I've progressed from liking cycling to loving cycling over the last ten or so years. And the neat thing is, as your enjoyment increases, so will your speed and range, and you enter a positive feedback loop reaping loads of health benefits.

49 years old, 900 miles this summer, 50 - 60 mile rides on the weekend when I can. I've only lost 2-3 lbs though, smaller waist, bigger legs. I do it for mental health and stress as much as anything.
