Conti GP 4000's in stock at PBK + Coupon Code

It seems like I have been waiting forever to find some GP 4000's in stock at PBK. An additional 5% off with the coupon code "usa75" for orders over $75. These end up being $37 each with shipping - not bad for a great tire.

I just bought a pair of GP 4000s' over the weekend using the code and my total was 50.79GBP which is around $84 USD.

Is it worthwhile spending extra to get the S version?

acaurora 09-09-09 05:29 PM

Wow, that looks like a pretty good deal! My GatorSkins are only 2 months old and have only 600 mi on them, so I think I will pass for now... but those of you looking should jump on it!

Jaeger 09-09-09 06:14 PM

Nice deal, but I'm waiting for the 25mm version in black. They've been out of stock for a while on those, and my tread wear indicators are disappearing while the number of surface cuts seems to be multiplying. I'd like to have a new pair on the shelf any time now.

navyasw02 09-09-09 06:15 PM

Man, I just bought 2 at my LBS for 65.... EACH!

rm -rf 09-09-09 06:36 PM

I paid just under $30.00 each for 3 4000S tires from PBK in March. Should have bought a few more!

I have 2500 miles on them and the front looks like new, and the back has a lot of wear to go--at least another 1000 miles. I'll rotate the front to the back and put the third tire on the front. I like these better than the Michelin Krylions I was using.

It appears the S is equivalent to the black 4000, not the color 4000. The color ones don't have the same tread compound.

No. Same tire, just a slightly different look.

There is a difference between the GP4000 in black and all the other colors, though. The colored tires do not have the Black Chili compound.

foresthill 09-09-09 06:40 PM

The S has the black chili compound. Unless the tire is a GP4000s or says "black chili", then it's a different tire (not as good, in my experience.)

Those are the color versions. The black tread is supposed to be grippier and wear a bit longer, a little better than the color ones.

The 25s with reflective sidewalls just came back in today (I got the notification email and ordered a pair). Same tire, unless the fred factor of a reflective sidewall is a problem. I wouldn't know, I maxed out the fredmeter a while ago.

Maybe that is true but I have been buying the silver and red ones for awhile and getting great mileage from them - at least 3000 miles. Then I put them on my trainer in the winter and get another 1000 miles on them (wear them on the trainer right down to the threads).

Thanks for the notice, and I certainly have no problem with the Fred factor. In fact I commute in the dark so the reflective sidewall is actually appreciated. And at the moment those are even a couple of bucks cheaper.

I have a pair on the way.

orcanova 09-10-09 07:00 PM

I think I paid $43 in my LBS not long ago.

Are you sure that the 4000S is the same as the 4000 black?

Tigerprawn 09-10-09 07:14 PM

No red in stock :(

agarose2000 09-10-09 07:20 PM

Can someone post a link to the reflective sidewall version? I think you never can be safe enough!

The GP 4000S and the GP 4000 black chili compound are the same tire. If it isn't designated 'black chili compound' then it is the lower grade rubber.

This is my understanding anyway.

Val23708 09-10-09 07:51 PM

Exchange rates are getting better. the 4000s's are under $40 now

bikeybikebike 09-10-09 09:19 PM

It's not the trad so much as the compund.

Don't know about the difference in durability but the black or "S" version has better grip in the wet.

Yes, it says so on the Conti site.
