Williams wheels
 

Anyone have exp. with these wheels? The good and bad on them? Customer service?

I need a new wheelset, trying to stay in the 1500g range and not above $1,000. Looking for best bang for the buck.

So far I'm interested in:
Campy Shamal
Williams Sys.30
Mavic Kyserium SL
Fulcrum Racing 3

I can purchase any of those below or less than 1k. Any other suggestions? I'm 145-150lb, ride mostly rolling hills to mountain passes. Rarely flat land and around 4-5K miles a year.

My Reynolds Attacks have a warranty issue and I'm returning them. I bought them a 9 months ago at an on-line overstock place for a great price but they currently don't have any more in stock so they are giving me a refund.

Soul has stuff under $1000. They also have the very light (1430g or something) 50mm full carbon clincher for $1100 or so shipped.

Psimet also has some great deals on deep carbon clinchers, and his prices are great.

I think for bang for the buck you have to check out these two options.

I'll play. I've been on Williams System 19s for about 8 months now. I ordered them on a Tuesday and had them Friday. They were cheap and work well. Have not needed to true the front since purchase. I did break a spoke in the rear during a race but I believe a branch did the damage - no fault of the wheel. I email Keith when I broke the spoke and within 24 hours he had about 12 replacement spokes out to me huh. He is a really nice guy with superb customer service and his wheels are great. I'd recommend them to anyone.

That said, for around 700-1K you can get some great handbuilts. I recently received a pair of Psimet wheels and they look awesome. I haven't ridden them yet but they are true and seem well built.

I've thought about Soul on sevweral occasions and nobody seems to have bad things to say. My only issue is the wait time, and sometimes Sean doesn't have wheels in stock. Other members have his stuff and like it though.

I thinks Williams, Psimet, Soul are all good choices.

Check out ROL D'Huez. I have the Race SLs, great wheels. The D'Huez fit your budget and weight requirement.

I'd also look at Campy Eurus. I've got the 2003 vintage and they're great wheels.

No Williams Wheels for you.

I have a Williams System 19 (in the 1500 gram range) and they've been really solid.

custom from psimet and you can do much better then 1500g or $1000

I love my Williams 30's. I have about 1000 miles on mine with no problems. It may be in my head but I really think the ceramic bearing roll faster.

I weigh 175 lbs and spent most of the summer on Williams System 30 wheels. No problems what so ever. I spent just under $500 for the set. For $1000 you could get the System 38 which are suposedly an even better wheel. Lighter, more aero, easier rolling.

i third this motion. i have 3000 miles on my Psimet custom hoops and all is good. later.

i have the williams 19's. ive bent 3 rims so far. i weight 122.

Williams 19's are XR-200 rims. The rims are very light but very, very noodley. They can be built to be stout.

Just curious but what are you using them for? I weight 165 and have had no issues at all. Have you contacted Keith?

Psimet - i don't see the carbon clincher rims on the website are they listed somewhere else?

I have a demo set of clinchers that I built up and will be putting under a lot of different racers tomorrow...errr...today for the Illinois State Road Race Championships - I hope to have some good shots to post after that's done.

Racing and training in norcal. the first front got bent in a solo crash. i got a crash replacement for $150 from Keith (really should have just looked up the rim and replaced that instead... after about 5 months of racing (and about 5000 miles of training) the rear is bent enough out of true that if you plucked it, it would sound like the highest note on a piano vs. middle C. And then my second front, the braking surface got bent somehow after hitting a road reflector during a sprint. the rear hub also doesn't spin as well anymore... some stuff might have gotten into the ceramic bearings. and the freebody is torn up from the cassette.

They were great wheels when they were new. great for climbing and sprinting.

now they are sitting in a box. the hubs are still okay enough to rebuild them.. i might pick up some new xr-200 rims and some new nipples ... i dont have a truing stand and the patience though
