Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Around here (Cox cable, Virginia) it's on Vs. (Versus tv) each day. About 1:00 or 1:30.

Only thirty minutes worth of coverage each day, but it's better than nothing.

Check your local listings.

Watched it last night on tourofmissouritracker.com It was really good coverage for being online, and no commericals. Seeing Brad White from Ouch, who grew up in my home town, in the breakaway was awesome too!

Not very much better.

I'm quite disappointed by the Versus coverage. With only 30 minutes of air time I wish they'd spend less time telling us how wonderful it has been up to this point and more time showing bicycle raceing. I mean they show a count down from 10 to the start every single day. What's the point?

valid.

1. The "intro" segment that they created is TOO long.... the part before each show. It feels like 3 minutes.
2. They recap the days before. (too much).
3. they do the 10 second count down before the race (before the neutral zone, too). 10 seconds is valiable time wasted!

Met Brad White at post race awarding last night, got his autograph & chat for a few secs. I think he is a nice guy. I'm on my way to watch stage 5 ITT at Sedalia, MO.

Ugh, no longer have VS, apparently Comcast, signal provider, is trying to jack up the prices and still in negotiations.

Just found out that US is std broadcasting La Vuelta, full coverage.

Direct TV is saying that they canceled Versus due to Comcast being unreasonable in negotiations but Dish still carries Versus. I have had several convesations with Direct Customer Service. They state its a done deal and they just did not want to pay what comcast wanted. US has great coverage of vuelta

Just got back. There where lots of poeple there. The TOM pulls in about 400,000 people each year and it's still growing. This was the first big name riders this year.

Any updates on the status for next year? Many of the rumors I've heard have it losing funding after this year.

Yeah...unlike the first year in which Alberto Contador, Levi Leipheimer, and the Discovery squad raced it.

I watched them start in KC.

Major funding comes from the Missouri Department of Tourism. I could be wrong, but I doubt they would be interested in funding a race held in Colorado.

They are looking at get funding from company. The state does not want to keep funding it so we will have to see what happens next year.

They show about 2 hours. It's well worth the watch though.

Not just a rumor. The governor of Missouri has been threatening to cancel the state funding for some time now. Public pressure saved the money for this year, but the future is uncertain. If you care about this, then write to the governor with your concerns. If you are a voter in Missouri, tell him who you are going to vote for in the next election.

Universal is going to broadcast the Tour of Missouri on TV, too, but next month. Tells you how important they think the race is.
