Rest days suck...
Today is a rest day, no riding at all.
I don't like it, I'm cranky, and I wanna ride my bike. How do you guys get through your rest days? |
Sounds like you don't really need a rest day
EDIT: I do my 2x/week ab routines on my rest days. I usually plan on entering them so sore and tired that I don't have the problem that you posted. |

I ride pretty hard on the days that I do ride, so when rest day comes (Mondays, for me), I really look forward to not riding. I will enjoy a beer or two, massage and stretch my legs a bit, and spend time with my family. When Tuesday afternoon comes, I'm well rested and ready to ride.
|
Crossfit on rest days, stretch plyo and some light lifting then off to the steam room. Sunday I did a century and rested monday, tuesday I knocked out a 10k run, tonight is the gym for chest, rubber band work, some core, and then steam for a good 30mins. Can't wait to steam especially since it's grey, windy, and chilly here in NYC.
|
run - mow the yard - ride around block with kids - drink a couple of cold ones - wash/lube bike
|
I buy stuff.
|
It is also possible to ride whilst unloading stress, instead of adding it on.
Sometimes on rest days I do 30 min recovery rides where my goal is to get passed by as many people as possible, only so I can warm my legs up for a good stretch. Half the reason I do it is because it is amusing to see other cyclists or street clothing clad commuters ride past me at a respectable clip, knowing that they just dropped a an elite roadie with matching lycra. |
Watch the Vuelta on USN and feel their pain.
+1 on buy stuff |
Tune the bike..have a life with the family..play some PS3 games.
|
I ride easily. Take the kids for a ride to the ice cream shop. If you don't have kids, borrow some.

It's kinda weird. I rode really hard the last three days and played ice hockey two nights, but my legs don't feel sore or tired, I'm kinda forcing myself to take a rest day. Maybe I don't really need it, what do you think? |
I know how you feel, I play lacrosse so I have to schedule biking around practice so as not to totally annihilate my legs. It can be quite frustrating really.
|
Just because your brain wants to ride doesn't mean your body agrees.
At my age (56) I've found that five days of riding in a row is often too much. It was cloudy today and might rain, so I spent the day washing my car and doing yard work, but nothing too hard. I really wanted to ride, but decided I better get other things done. I've come back after a mid-week day off quite refreshed. I never ride on the weekend, but for some reason Mondays aren't always my best day. Two days off may be too much. |

Maybe I don't really need it, what do you think? Just keep hitting it hard day in and day out until you hate your bike and it hurts to walk. Ride harder. It takes some time and experimentation to learn how your body works but you will know better than anyone else can tell you. PUsh it to the limit and find out |
You'll get cranky and not want relations with any woman and all you want to do is sulk and sleep. That's when you know you need a rest day or three. I sometimes crave certain foods as well. Real fatty foods.
If you have a strong desire to ride ... go ride. |

I thrash my legs the rest of the week. Woke up this morning with my legs throbbing. Being that this is my rest day I am enjoying it.
|
Cross train... Run, lift weights, etc

I've experienced this. Just figured it was because I have no self control.

I have a VERY hilly century on Sunday. Took 2 days off (today is day two), can't wait to get back on the bike tomorrow! Rest days do suck. But recovery is a weapon!
